Same can easily said for almost any bolt action in a centerfire hunting caliber.

Really? A 1" hole all the way through? If that's true, where does the meat go? Does the bullet push it out the exit hole?

The temporary cavity may vary between 1-3 inches, but not the permanent cavity.

You should actually shoot a deer sometime with a .223 or similar .22 centerfire. The entrance hole will be a small, bullet-sized spot. The exit hole will most likely not exist because SP's seldom exit an adult deer.
