Back in the late 80's and early 90's, there was the Pauza semi automatic .50 BMG rifle out. The company went under due to some shady pressure and production of this very accurate rifle stopped.

I've been looking for some diagrams and pics of this gun for a while. Now, I find one for sale at a local establishment. Go figure. I'm going to go down and check it out after work.

Please tell us more about it after you check it out. Gee, I never heard of it but then I was probably in grade school.

I've heard the name, but probably wouldn't recognize one if I saw it.

Designed by Robert Pauza... seems that the design may be re-introduced soon...

I was looking at this back when I got my Barrett M82A1. There were a couple of them on the market back then. However, checking around I found that people were claiming they were unreliable and tended to jam fairly often. I have no idea about the accuracy of such claims, but that black mark coupled with the fact that they were no longer in production led me away from considering buying one.

Matter of fact, the only person I talked to that had one who did not lament that it jammed was a guy down in south Florida who had one. But he said he had never fired it.....

Bear in mind that this was back in late '96 when I was checking them out. I bought the Barret in March of '97.

The Pauza is back, there's a company making them again but you better be sitting down for the price, $9,200! They had it listed in one of the recent VHP magazines.

I don't know how many they're going to sell at that price, if they matched the Barrett they might have a chance.

Amen, brother! That's their main competition, so what are they offering that the Barrett can't already deliver? I suspect the Pauza may be more accurate, since the Barrett has a recoiling barrel, but $2K worth of "more accurate" is a pretty big pill to swallow.

Here's the website www.freshourmfg.com from VHP 2004-1.

Armalite was thinking about marketing the Pauza a couple years ago. I think it would take a large company or one with the financial backing to keep the cost down to compete with Barrett.

Heck, to be honest, I enjoy shooting the M99 (single shot bolt action) a WHOLE lot more than I do shooting the M82A1 (semi-auto) Barrett. Actually push come to shove, I would rather have two M99s than the one M82A1 if I had it to do all over again. And I could buy three (3) M99s for what that Pauza costs!

But I guess that is just me. Shooting off 10 rounds of .50BMG in a string out of a semi-auto would wear me right out!

Heck, for that matter, I don't think I have ever loaded more than 3 or 4 cartridges into my M82A1's magazine at a time.
