View Full Version : AR22'3s WIN 550m stage rifle matches
EVERY weekend. Until that was SO, the 308 fans pointed to their calilber and gun's winning such as being SO "meaningful". They were ALREADY being beaten every weekend, at realistic combat matches, to 300m, by AR's, even WITH the "minor caliber" scoring handicap Cooper put on 223 for IPSC rifle matches.:-) Now that the 223 has been kicking ass at the 600 yd stages for about a decade, the 308 bozos are getting DESPERATE to justify their stupid choice of gun and caliber. Now they talk about "shooting thru" cover. well, a $150 sks can do that, given steel cored ammo. :-)

I shot a 3 gun match yesterday. After the match I spent about 40 minutes talking to a gentleman about the SKS that he was using. We compared it to my Garand that I had in my SUV as a backup rifle. I dragged the rifle and a bandoleer out and offered him the opportunity to shoot it. After knocking down a number of long range silouettes (steel pigs) at 300 meters, He commented on how his SKS neither had the accuracy nor the power to take down those steel pigs. He's been considering a Garand for a couple of months, I think he's sold now.

The 5.56 has done well at the 600 m stages because no power level is required. They do tend to do less well that 7.62 in windy and rainy days also. If all you have to do is punch paper at 600 m, the AR is a fine choice. But if you have to project POWER at that range, then the 7.62 is the way to go. Only a stupe would think otherwise.
at 600 yds, fired from a 24" barrel. That's the same level of power as the much ballyhooed 4" 357 revolver has at 10 ft, using 125 gr jhp's. You dont NEED to knock the man on his ass at such ranges. All you have to do is ruin his ability to hurt you, and the 223 does that just fine. You powermad assholes are such twits about such things. Nobody HAS to hunt at ALL, much less take game at such ranges. Nobody has to "snipe" at such ranges. Like little KIDS, WANTING-to is the samething to you as "needing to". Well, there IS a diff, and the 223 DOES do many things that the 308 CAN'T do, like use a .22 unit, used the GI rifle rd, be usable one handed, conceal in an attache case, conceal on your person, be handy with a can attached, all of which are of considerable value NOW, and may well be priceless advantages if shtf.
No, dumb ass, it's NOT "apples to oranges". It's about PERFORMANCE evaluation, something which you are UTTERLY uncapable of doing.

stupe doen't know a 7.62 from a 24 inch barrel with a 168gr bullet has over 1000 fp of energy. That's makes that .357 look like [**censored**]. And that's from a M1A with 24 inch barrel. Boltgun does even better. Makes that 11 inch CAR look like a midget (just like it's owner.)
And no, a piss ant .22's 500 fp is worthless as at that range it will not fragment nor tumble. pos it is for sure. But a 7.62 will be traveling over 1700 fps. Plenty of velocity and WEIGHT and BULLET AREA.
And bozo now CLAIMS even if they 7.62 is better, you don't need the long range. But that stupe does not see the extra penitration over th 5.56, either through obstructions or vest or gear, is valuable. But that REMF REJECT stupe has no clue.
