Gun Rebluing

I have an Ortgies .32 pistol that I would like to have reblued. I am open to suggestions as to whom I should send it to have excellent work performed on it. Please include any info you have about the person or business you suggest, such as: Name, mailing address, web address, what they charge for rebluing a pistol, any experience you had with their work.

shipping will most likely be $10 in each direction. Bluing such a pc usually runs about $50. Blueing is a pretty straightforward process,takes about $150 to set up to do pistols. You should be able to find a local guy. Have him show you some of his work first,or refer you to others for whom he's done blueing. Make sure he knows not to dryfire the Ortgies, they are notorious for breaking firing-pins.

Definitely check references and tell him very plainly to go easy in the polishing. Its easy to round square edges, dish screw/pin holes and blur/erase roll marks.

Thanks I'll keep all that in mind if I get it reblued. I am considering it as it will never be a very valuable collector's piece so a reblue will not harm value. Thanks for the info on the dry firing, I was not at al aware of this and my firing pin/striker was apparently also unaware and luckily remains in good shape after some very limited dry firing. I will curtail that though from now on with the Ortgies...

IIRC, the Ortgies has a HOLLOW, (or 2 pc?) firing pin. Never bothered with blowback centerfires, since about 1970, so I wouldn't know for a fact. Just read it in a 'smithing book.
