405-gr hardcast (LBT WLNGC) over 63-gr of BP couldn't make it through a 1" plate of aluminum (6061) at 250 yards.

Not only broke clean through, but tore nasty, ragged holes in it.

Finally had to move up to a "gong" of 1" cold-rolled steel (less would have probably worked, but I'm cheap and didn't want to experiment).

Note, don't shoot at steel close up, it tends to shoot back :dgrin:

For safety, I don't shoot at it unless there's no one else at the range, no need for anyone to take a hit from such a beast. Sure is rewarding to hear that "BONNNNG G G G " from a 300 yard hit.

Anyone else shoot BPCR?

BPCR is Black Powder C??? R??? and a LBT WFNGC is ???????.

An explanation please for those of us who are stricken with BPDD (Black Powder Deficit Disorder). :D

Thanks

BPCR = Black Powder Cartridge Rifle
LBT = Cast Performance (a company) Lead Bullet Technology, they put out a very good line of pre-sized and pre-lubed hardcast bullets with wide meplats, two of the types offered are:
WFNGC = Wide Flat Nose Gas Check
WLNGC = Wide Long Nose Gas check

They also make bullets without gas checks.
Cast Performance (http://www.castperformance.com/)

They have loading data also, as most newer loading manuals don't list for the heavier bullets.

Correction: The .45-70 is the 405-gr. WLNGC
I use the WFNGC 300-gr .44 bullet in .44 Magnum

Don't worry, I had to go slogging through the nomenclature before I knew what everyone was talking about too.
