Shipping question

I'm moving to Colorado on Monday, but I can't fit all my rifles into my car. Is it legal to ship my own rifles to myself, across state lines? And if so, how would I go about doing it?

I know that the ultimate answer is yes, but there may be some hoops involved. I'd consider shipping the stuff that isn't rifles that was in my car and avoid the whole issue...

I need most of the stuff I'm bringing with me, I guess I'll just leave 'em with a friend and get them when I come down in october.

Just give UPS and/or BATF a call and ask them. You are not actually engaging in commerce, and both the shipper and the recipient are YOU, so you are not transferring possession.

I don't see where this would be any different from checking in a firearm as luggage at the airport for a trip.

But heck, when did logic ever apply to this sort of thing?

If it is legal in the states involved, then you SHOULD be able to ship it to YOURSELF but not to anyone else. It isn't legal to ship it to yourself care of someone else (or vice versa) and let them open it. In other words, if the laws are really how I have read them and I didn't make a mistake, I could ship snakes from Texas to my Dad's house in Louisiana for some reason, but nobody but myself could ever open the box.

Just go to a local FFL and ask him to make sure you can ship to yourself and not involve the FFL.

I've had a couple of FFL tell me that UPS is MUCH more anti-gun that Fedex, so I would SUGGEST using alternatives to UPS. Fedex, USPS even, and I don't know about the "new" airborne.

Personally, I keep my UPS shipments (coming and going) to a BARE minimum!
