It looks very awkward and I wonder how adding 2.5 lbs will affect the main weapons handling. Interesting that it has a 5 shot magazine though.

What bothers me is the "bolt action" part. An under-barrel attachment like that that is magazine fed would be better off a semiauto.

IIRC,by bolt action I believe that they mean something more along the line of how you would manually cycle a semi auto.IOWs fire,bull bolt back,release,bolt picks up shell,fire,repeat.

Also,that link mentioned a weight less than an M203.It would seem hard to get prone in a hurry though,with that grip asm hanging down there.

It's probably a bolt action of some sort to reduce weight and weapon complexity.

Troops are carrying shotguns mainly for stuff like door breaching. It'd be surprised if the trooper was packing more than 20 rounds for it on a patrol, if that many.

The magazine would be a bit of a problem, the "grip" is just the magazine of the rifle, just like the 203 uses.

Yeah, but they're talking about making it a squad or even fire-team issue weapon, which implies close-in fighting utility, as specialized door breachers et al, would not be needed in every fire team.
