You've mentioned the 155gr A-MAX bullet in .308 as a great real world performer.
Is there any specific, powder, brass and primer combo you can recommend for it? Or, would this be revealing company secrets?
I do realize I would need to work up a load, just want a good component reference to start. :)

I think that might have been either a typo or a bit of an unclear statment in regards to performance.
I remember him saying on another site (Patriot Network IIRC) that this bullet performs good over a given distance/velocity range.

There's not anything I'm really able to tell you. We contacted the manufacturer and said that we wanted a 155gr Amax load that will give us 2950fps at 25ft from the muzzle of an 18" M1A barrel, can you give it to us in a load that is suitable for the known requirements of a commercial M1A.

A few waivers later and poof we have it in large quantities.

The brass is all LC Brass and the primers are CCI#34.
The brass is because that is what they can get and it works, the primers are because the load is used in M1As and the #34 have a harder cup.

As for powder and charge? As with any commercial load they use what works in terms of pressure and velocity, they'll blend and mix and match to get the results they need and it's pretty much always not a cannister grade powder. Meaning not a ppowder than you and I can go to the store and buy.

Ok, I figure it must be something like that considering the velocity.

One powder I'm considering is Reloader 15 would that be a decent choice?

BTW- I use LC brass and the #34 primer myself.

It's not a load that the makers are going to put on the market commercially you can bet that, it's beyond SAMMIs pressure specs, but at the same time it's not tearing our guns up.

RL-15 is a nice powder, pretty clean, burns on the cool side.

That's what I've been hearing....I used to run WW 748 in both 5.56 and 7.62 Nato but I'm looking for something better.

When you say "something better" what is it about the 748 powder that you want to improve on? I've used 748 for a long time and gotten satisfactory results from it.

Well something that burns cleaner and is more stable over various heat extremes.

That's why I was originally wondering what powder they used for loads over in the sand box.

748 ain't bad but I'm always looking for that extra edge in performance.
