I would guess a cheap, but viscous brown, but I can't PROVE it 100%

The quality of the ink is important! If the ink ran, you would have a bigger mess than you started with!!

The ink quality seems to "run" from weak and thin to thick and indecipherable. In any case, the quality is "spotty".
