I was talking to a buddy of mine, and he told me that he knew a guy who had a pistol which fired an odd size shotgun round. Were these made for certain pistols?

I really don't think so. Krept found the right answer. A sub-caliber shot gun round. Pretty innovative when you think about it, but not much practical use. I have fifty of them.
