The overlapping temporary cavities work together to tear up tissue (that's weakened by the muliple perforations of the bullet frags. 21 holes in ya in 1 second, like 2 blasts of magnum buckshot, from a pump-12 ga. Makes a .40 short and weak pocket auto look like a toy by comparison. The .38 Casull should be based upon a (shortened) 45 Win Mag case, not the .45 ACP case. Might as well have a thicker web, and a longer case. The smaller diameter bullet means that the case may be a bit longer, and still fit inside of the box mag. :-) 60 grs, 2300 fps, 3" barreled version of the 1911, 23 ozs loaded wt. AP performance, better controlability than a steel .38 snub (using plus P 158 gr lhp's) yes, lots of blast and flash, but that's not necessarily all bad, and it's a small price to pay for the tremendous performance that you get.

Such a pocket pistol and load makes a full sized .45 1911 look sick, too, when the latter has nothing better than 230 gr jhp's in it, and somebody as slow as garnad has it buried under his winter coat. The 38 casul will be EMPTY before a twit like garnad can react, draw and fire his first (wild) one handed hip shot. :-)
