on a hunting or competition gun, where you might actually have use for adjustable sights on a pistol, they might be worth the $150 cost to install them.
otherwise, fixed Novak or Hogues or King's. do just fine.

My old 70 series has exactly that; milled-in low-mount BoMar adjustable rear sight with slightly-modified partridge-type front sight. Front sight is bolt-on, not staked in.
I bought the gun used in the late 80’s with them on it, and it’s never had a problem. May be something newer & better available now, but I have no complaints with the Bomars.
Dont know what could be better, for that kind of shooting. Might experiment with Ashley luminous some day, for fast stuff.

If I’d been carrying weapons in the 50’s, I couldn’t have imagined what would be “better” than what was available then, either. But then the AR platform came around…
Same thing could and does happen in most any field; things change. Sometimes pointlessly, sometimes for the better.

The Ashley sights are regarded as an incredible boon to fast target acquisition.

What do you know about KING'S NUTTY JOHN? I used to work there. So be careful what you say, TARD!
You spelled Jim Hoags name wrong, TARD ... So much for your vaunted gun knowledge AGAIN!
Kings Gun Works was the facility that developed the LOW-PROFILE Bomar installation.
Jim Hoag, the gunsmith that, at one time, did all of the accurizing of 45's, at King's, was the gunsmith that developed the low profile Bomar sight installation, and Hoag installs them lower than anybody. I have 12, 45's, that Jim Hoag has installed Bomars on.
I have twelve 70 series Colts, NUTTY JOHN, eat you heart out!
I have a Springfield Armory TRP Operator, that has a factory Bomar sight installation, on it. The SA's Bomars are installed higher than a Hoag's.
Originally the Bomar was designed to set, high, in the original dovetailed groove, the original Colt sights were installed in.
If you go to http://www.1911forum.com/ and do a search under Jim Hoag, you will get over 150 hits on his name. Guns magazine did a reader survey/poll of all of the 45 smiths, IN THE United States, and out of the top 10 smiths, Jim Hoag came in fifth place.
And, NUTTY JOHN Jim Hoag has been a friend of mine since 1962. So, NUTTY JOHN, watch your mouth, because you're over loading you PRISON BITCH ASS again ...
Arnold Capone, the owner of King's Gun Works, died, from Cancer, less than a month ago. The shop is still in operation, ran by his son Bill Capone. Bill Capone does some of the most beautiful metal work on 45's, that I have ever seen.
Jim Hoags shop is located at 8523 Canoga Ave., Canoga Park, CA 91304. The shop phone number is 1 (818) 998-1510.
Unlike you, NUTTY JOHN, when you posted Ken Hackathorne's private phone number, without his permission. I called Jim, and asked his permission, to post his shop phone number here. Sooo, NUTTY JOHN, call Jim, and ask if what I said is true or not!
Unlike you NUTTY JOHN, I make sure, I can back up everything I say, or do ... And, I can beat you ass, seven ways west from sunday, drawing and shooting a 45! Want to have a shoot out NUTTY JOHN? Want to have a video taped shoot out?
Or, is your above post another YAP and RUN post?

NUTTY JOHN, the Bomar sight was designed, and released in 1952. that would make it 53 years the sight has been in service. So much for your vaunted gun knowledge, AGAIN!
A Bomar sight installation, including the sights, will cost $225.00 now TARD.

I've had Witchita's on 2 or my .45's, nice sights. I'm happy with them.

Garand, are the Witchitas, an iteration of the Bomar? I can only remember seeing one style from Witchita.
I use a Witchita rifle rest regularly. It is, a fine rifle rest ... I have always seen quality products from witchita.
Have you ever seen one of the fine rifles they produced?
Both Rika's and my 45s have low mount BoMars and they work just fine. The old Micro sight on the steel Commander works well too though the Micro Sight Co. is now out of business.

Raider, do you remember the "Melted Micro?" Some of the customizers ground the Micro down around the edges and the forward part of the sight. Jeff Cooper started calling that installation, the "Melted Micro."
The Micro sight, of Belmont, CA, for some reason, never caught on with the customizers. However, it could be mounted as low as the Bomar it'self.
Early on, the Bomar developed a reputation for being the strongest of all replacement pistol sights.
I have a Ruger Mark 1 Target auto, 5 1/2 bull barrel, which I bought in 1962, that has a Micro sight, factory mounted on it.
I will call this to Dad's attention when he gets home.
