I nerved myself up to go out and shoot my Christmas toy. -10 below, I ain't built for it. It fed Ball, Silvertips, and Federal Hydra-Shoks with no problems. I tore it down and gave it a Militech-1 rub down. I took it out and shot it again. It's a good pistol. You might want to pick one up before there all gone. A little muzzle light, but still nice.
nasty, ugly, oversized and overwt for what it is. Horrible DA trigger pull, really steep feed ramp angle, (ie, jhp feeding trouble) high priced, other than its exposed barrel, and separate locking block under the barrel (both helpful for using a silencer with this gun) the P38 is a pointless pos.
The P38 is an excellent shooter with good handling characteristics although the grip angle doesn't fit some hands. Its extremely reliable and even functioned well at the Russian Front. BTW it doesn't do at all well fitted with a suppressor.
Andy, your hands are made to handle a Whopper, not a P38.
Glad you enjoy your new prize Terry.

Nasty, ugly, overweight? Actually, the DA trigger is not bad, some creep to it, but nothing I can't live with. The ramp has not shown itself to be a problem as I have had no malfunctions in 115 rounds of FMJ and JHP. Hardly high priced. I don't know exactly what my Wife paid for it but I would think about $300.00 OTD. I think it's a nice piece of history. I buy a lot of gun's (Colt SAA, Webley's, Martini-Henry's, SMLE's, Mausers, SKS's, etc.) just because I think they have a place in my collection. I don't buy every gun with the intention of killing someone with it. Anyway, it was a gift from my darling wife, so up yours, John.

I look forward to getting one(or two,3,...4?:))myself soon.
It seems like just yesterday that P-38s were everywhere.Time sure does fly.
You're right about the "piece of history".There are some things that we should all own if for no other reason than to keep as silent reminders of the past.
I'm happy that you recv'd a good shooter.I know that some of those are beautifully finished.

Next big gunshow I'll pick one up. I see them new in the crates for less than $270. Speaking of overweight, I bet a P1, aluminum P-38 frame, weights less than a POS Star Bowl Movement! The BM is all steel, crappy trigger, feeds only ball ammo in unmodified form. And if you leave the magazine safety in, the mag won't drop free. Not to mention BM parts are MUCH harder to find that P1/P-38 parts.
But what would a dumb **** like gunkid know about guns, right?
