View Full Version : Ladies Bedside Companion - the shotgun
Since some folks hate shotguns so much, I decided to post a couple of photos of my bed buddy. Its a plain old Rem 870 with parked finish and 18" police cylinder barrel. Extended magazine by Choate.
What might be of some interest is the leather cheekpiece. It holds 7 spare 12ga shotshells very securely and does not interfere with the handling of the gun. The cheekpiece is an exact duplicate of the Cold Comfort model that Milt Sparks made for many years. I believe that it is still available from Sparks Leather on special order.

Beautiful!
I would hate to be the nocturnal intruder that finds himself on the business end of such a gun.

THere's absolutely nothing that's as much of an attention getter as an 870 being racked. I like the leather shell cuff, but I would HATE to be in a situation that needed that much shotgun ammunition. If you need that many shells, you don't have a problem, you have a battle. :madeuce:

We have found that the butt cuff does pose one problem. It gives you quite a smack in the face if you have to go left handed on a left hand corner or for any other reason.
That is why I have gone to side saddles.
Cool blaster though.
Thanks Hasher. Excellent point.

Don't have a pic, but that looks a lot like my 870 that resides by the bed (man's second best friend?). It's a retired Police Magnum, that has a lot of the goodies you have to pay extra for in a new gun. I keep it loaded with its favorite shot (OOO), and the butt cuff carries slugs. I use the 5-round butt cuff so it can be mounted forward, and it hasn't given me a smack to the chops firing it off hand yet.
I also have a Mossberg 590A1 that has a 6-round side saddle with extra shot and the butt cuff with slugs.
like you have a chance in hell of GETTING to any longarm in time, like it's SECURED by your bed, right? Lame, lame, lame. Like you can HANDLE it, with one hand, while you hold a light, a phone, a kid, open doors, look behind clothes hanging in closet, under a bed, etc, right? BS. The $300, used, 9mm Marlin Camp gun is a FAR better choice for a house gun than is any pump 12 ga.

Melvin, I am a VERY young guy and I once almost had to defend my home with my combat shotgun.
Some idiot in a mask came up to my door and tried to pick the lock open. Right at the front door, what a looser. Within 10 seconds of hearing my timberland shepherd go into berserk mode I was cocked and locked. He didnt see me, Im a stealthy sucker and used my home to my advantage as cover. If he didnt run after he picked up his picking device and managed to initiate close contact with my dog, last thing that wouldve gone through his brain would have been 9 000 pellets. At 5 yards it would be an intant kill. I am thankful that such force was not required to end the situation.
BTW Rika, your 870 is much like mine. I dont have the shell carrier on the stock but I have a longer barrel (which I dont like for defence, want a 21" for tactics) and a super extended tube. I can put 7+1 3" in mine, very unwieldy in close contact areas such as doorways :(.Personally I think the length of yours is better. Good choice Rika.

I guess I willhav eot get a camera and post a few cool pics of my own.
DW you really do not need or want to be shooting those 3" mags. The new reduced recoil tactical stuff is a much better bet.
Again melvin speaks of that of which he has no clue.
Well off to TEACH a pistol class and conduct an ammo test with the shotguns.

Plenty of people have gotten to their shotguns before jackasses like stupekid stumbled into their homes. That's what dogs and burgler alarms are for. See dumbasses like gunkid don't 'think' others will hear the dog or alarm or noise they make.
I've twice heard youths outside my house and picked up my Mossburg 500A to great them. My Mossie has a tacstar side saddle holding 4 rounds and a speed feed stock. It came with 20 inch tube and a heat shield. It's parkerized. I sprayed some dry lube over the parkerization and that gun just shoots and shoots. I will one day add a set of Millet ghost ring sights and maybe have the barrel sent to vang to have their Vang Comp.
But even as it its, that 12ga will put a hole the size of a orange through such as stupekid if he is that dumb to come around. His POSCAR and can ain't worth **** when the dog lets me know he is there.
FWIW - even if you don't get a chance to load the shottie, you can scare the pudding out of anyone hearing you rack the slide (didn't our famous "expert" say that you don't need to hit, the sound of the first shot missing will scare them away, in this case you save ammo) and if worse came to worse, you've got a more effective weapon than a baseball bat, useful for thrusting, slashing, butt stroking (not the prison shower type) or clubbing.

I picked up a nice 870 Express for $275 at a local pawn shop last week.
Came with a Butlere Creek folding stock with integral shell carrier, 6-round side saddle, and ghost ring sights. It's got the 18 1/2" barrel, and the standard magazine. I'm thinking of an extended mag tube so i can carry 7 rounds ready to rock.
I really like the stock. It has a pistol grip like an AR, and folding buttstock, good for CQB, or longer shots, and you don't have to switch stocks to use it in a pistol grip only configuration.
