autopistol, the Star's smaller, lighter, just as accurate, durable, reliable, and it's got the advantage of having an SA triggerpull. The Buckmark groups 3/4" at 25m, and saves you 20c a shot over .45 ammo costs. It will hold up to at least 50,000 rds, probably more like 100,000, and will help you train others. Between them, if you shoot as much as you should (ie, 5000 rds a year) to become adequately skilled with a defensive handgun) they will quickly save you enough money to afford a REAL pistol, ie, an alloy framed compact, fully loaded Spld 1911 variant, wiith luminous sights, $700 or less, used, AND a Colt .22 unit for same, $400 or so. You can always get $300 for the Star 9mm BM and the Buckmark, if you wish. So it will take at most 2 years for the Star and the .22 to save you enough to have the primo belt gun.

Some people, like me, just save $$ for the piece they want and learn to shoot IT and get a feel for THEIR PERSONAL weapon. Different guns have different "personalities" not in a spirit sense, just in a personal feel sense. Some skills one learns with a Star will obviously not be transfered over to the glock or the 1911. Please note that I do NOT think Stars are the worst guns on earth, I believe them to be ok, yet I havnt had time to test one out.

In short, if you plan to learn to shoot a weapon for an intended purpose, dont use an intermediary, get the weapon, spend the extra $$ and do it RIGHT.
