Would anyone like to read occasional book reviews?

We could sum up:

- what did the book cover
- did we agree with the author
- was the book worth the price

We could review books that we've read on topics such as: frontier rifles, the Napoleonic Wars, the American Civil War, external ballistics, wound ballistics, camping / survival skills, etc.

Is there any interest?

When you read a book review, it would help if you add feedback.

Did the reviewer answer your questions?

Was the review helpful?

If you have read the book, did you agree with the reviewer?

Let me jump on in...
American Soldier by General Tommy Franks
This is a biography, It covers General Franks' life thru his retirement and shortly thereafter. Since it was a gift it was definately worth the price and I would have bought it or checked it from the library had it not been given.
One of the salient points from the book, for me, was when young Franks was just about to join-up. When he talked to his dad about it, dad said "Make 'em a good hand." This is an archaic admonition from a southern father to his southern son advising the son to do his best. It really hit home to me, as I discussed it with my dad, who grinned at the quote, remembering his father saying the same thing to him. It made it a very personal read to me.
General Franks tells about many things other than those middle-eastern endeavours that brought him to the spotlight. His insights into learning the intricacies of effective leadership, both on and off the battlefield, are well crafted and written is such a style as to be imminently readable. It's a big book that covers a lot of ground, but it is never a burden to read. Recommended, highly.
How can I further hip you to it?
