I'm looking for a stainless scope mount for a Remington 700 and stainless scope rings (or at least "look" like stainless) for the same mount. I contacted Brownells and they pointed me to their Warne rings as a solution to my search.

OK, maybe I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I tried using this kind of scope ring in the past, and it about drove me loony! I needed at least three hands trying to mount the blasted scope in them, keeping the scope, both rings, and rifle all under my control. What am I missing here? I HATE these things, but maybe there is a trick that is obvious to everyone else on how to use them. I thought about putting the rings on the scope first before trying to mount the rings onto the receiver, but I honestly do not like to slide rings all over the scope tube if I can help it.

So help me out fellas. What's the trick to using these things.

Or does anyone else know of more conventional rings I could use that come in stainless? Oh yeah, they need to be 30mm rings and the height needs to be compatible with a 6x24x50 Swarovski scope. Not sure if I need medium or high rings for the bell on this guy.

Thanks.

I have Warne rings on 2 of my rifles. No problem mounting. If you're worried about the scope sliding then secure it to the rings temporarily with black electrical tape. Just attach the rings to the scope loosely and then attach the rings to the bases loosely. Tighten the screws equally and a little bit at a time. I had to adjust the scope a little bit but never marred the tube.

RIKA uses the same solution I use.

Heck, I don't know, but they just seem like a solution looking for a problem to me. I guess I've gotten set in my ways, lately. I like to mount the rings onto the mount then true them up, making sure they are exactly lined up with the scope alignment tools I have. Then most recently I have gotten sold on the ring lapping procedure. So all this virtually means you have to secure the rings to the mount before you can do any of the truing and lapping.

Guess I'm getting old and habits are becoming obsessions..... :-poke:
