I am not very discriminatory, I like just about everyone. I take people with their faults and imperfections, and love them for what they are.
That being said, there are some people who are easier to like than others. Here is a list of qualities that, to me, makes a person appealling:
1) Those who are happy and interested in something outside of themselves
2) Those who are trying very hard, despite obstacles, to succeed in some goal in their life
3)Those who go out of their way to help others.
4) Those with strong family and ethical values
5) Those who have a sense of humor and who make an effort to lift the spirits of other people around them
How about y'all, what is it that makes a person particularly likeable, in your experience?

any combo of the following
- creative without being aloof
- deep / out of the box thinkers
- people with truly big hearts
- unique & expressive
most important, however, is sharing the same wavelength. tough to explain. Sometimes there is a time for cheer, others... a time for brooding.

I like that list. I see a lot of people on this board who meet your first criteria, creative without being aloof; do you see them also?

Show up with a beer and I'll be your friend....
Just kidding, well, actually beer works!
Creativity is good.
Thoughtful - not just in the courteous sense, but intellectually too. (doesn't mean they have to be smart)
honest (thrifty, cheerful, brave, reverent, clean...)
Enjoy life.
beyond that, why limit your options?

Lucille, yes, I see some people that meet that list indeed. We all have some creativity locked inside us, but so few use it, much less apply it across different media.
By the intent of the post, I was thinking about people that I'd want to have as at least an acquaintance.
I'd never limit my options in terms of people I'd talk to, but when you have too many people in your life, there isn't enough time to do things that you really feel are important.
Hmmm. I like almost everybody or at least try to. The ones I drop are the arrogant self important ones and the terminally stupid.

I like people who can and will FIGHT for individualism. They are very, very rare, but I know quite a few of them.

Heck, I guess I value honesty just about over anything else. If someone doesn't have that, then nothing else really matters. If I can't believe that every word out of your mouth is the truth as best you can determine it, then I just don't have any reason to have you near me.

I have an instant like for anyone of any age that will sit on his or her butt on the ground and play with a puppy. Sounds wierd but anyone that takes pleasure in making a dog's tail wag and that happy go lucky smile with the tongue hanging out is okay in my book.
I also look for honesty, integrity, emotions, intelligence, and most important of all... a willingness to go out of his or her way to help a stranger. One of my best friends is a guy I met while helping a biker who had lost control and taken a spill. Me and this one other guy stopped to help while everyone else just kept on driving by. We exchanged contact info and are very close now.

Interesting point you make, it alludes to two I value most.
Be true to oneself. Far too many hide behind facades in order to find acceptance, only to lose themselves in the deciept.
Courage. Have the fortitude to find who you truely are, and allow others to see you in that light.
