What if, in fact, we are not free men, but only numbers?

You are, number six.

that's why there's guns, and men who'll teach you how to use them EFFECTIVELY, make cans, etc. Big Brother doesn't want to have to live in a bunker, wearing a gas mask to sleep in, travel in a tank, etc.

you need to stick to threads where you know what's being discussed.
All the references here are based on a certain TV series.
Be seeing you.

so what, punk? the POINT is tyrants, and resisting same effectively, instead of being plucked like a chicken and and hoping that Big Brother lets you go later.

There are subtle ways to resist. Number 6 didn't play the tough con and cell warrior; he was cool. Your resistance won't last 5 minutes before they kill you or turn you into a vegetable just to shut you up.

andy, "Big Brother" was from a book entitled '1984', written by George Orwell.
'The Prisoner' was a television show on BBC [some episodes were aired on CBS in the US] which premiered in 1967. It was written by, and starred, Patrick McGoohan.
"The Prisoner's Dilemma", by Jonathan Blum and Rupert Booth is, actually, first in a new series on novels based on McGoohan's work.
