I'm thinking of getting a scope for my 39a, I'm thinking of maybe a Bushnell, either the 3-9x32 or the 4x32. Anyone have any suggestions?

The Bushnell I bought was a chinese POS. Rubber O-ring in eyepiece came out first time I tried to adjust it. I suggest an American brand.

I have a Nikon 4x32 mounted. Good scope, $100.

If you want very good quality, hard to beat a Leupold 4x32. About $200.

I think a Leupold is over kill for a .22, the Nikon sounds like a good idea.

BTW: I thought Bushnell was supposed to be a decent (not great) brand...and they're not American!?

I just think it is tough to beat a Leupold. Find a used one at a decent price, use it for as long as you want to. Then when you want to sell it, as long as you haven't beaten it up, you will get all your money back, and maybe more.

Hard to beat that.

I've got a Leupold 1.75x6 variable on a .17HMR Remington 597 and it's a really nice combination. The 1.75 magnification is great for quick squirrel acquisition, and the 6x is just about right for the longer shots.

Back years ago Bushnell was all American. Some may be still made here but my POS 22 scope was made in China.

Has anyone tested the new Bushnell 3.5-10x36 Banner Dusk & Dawn Rifle Scope? The one that came out this summer with the .17HMR compensator. They are selling good and less than a hundred dollars.

Not quite but I do have the 6-18 power dusk to dawn 50 mm mounted on my VSSF 220 swift with leupold bases and rings. I have to say it has been very good so far and is quite clear and has seen a bit of abuse not a lot but enough I would figure to throw it off but it has not let me down yet and I got it for a smokin price. Made in Korea neither here or there but it does work well enough. If I do wreck it I would have no problem tossing it in the junk. I have a couple of much better quality scopes on order and should have them in a month or so. I will have to stash them away and sneak them into the house one at a time so all hell don't break loose but I do love a challenge. The only down side I blew all my allowence so no beer money for me for a fair bit.

I’m in agreement with Rich & Magnum; a Leupold is hard to beat. Since I started buying leupolds, I can’t hardly stand to use my old guns with their old scopes.

The one exception is my CZ .22 rifle; it carries an old Simmons “44 Mag” 4.5-10 x 40 scope. While it’s not up to a Leupold, and it’s overkill for a .22 scope, it’s what I had laying around at the time. Personally I think an open-hammer, lever-action .22 doesn’t need that much scope. Not knocking the 39A, I had one in the 70’s and it was a great rifle. A “good” $40-$60 4x32 (not a BSA or low-end tasco, etc) should let in a lot of light and could serve a .22 very well. I’ve never had much luck with low-dollar variables; too much going on with all the gears & adjustments I guess for them to be made very well very cheap.
