fear of death, fear of pain, enslavement, boredom, loss, etc. Once you realize that death is what gives life MEANING, and death is surcease from pain and/or suffering, there's no further need of religion. Few ever make it to that level, though.

Many flavors of Paganism are not based on the principles that you have described at all. Zoroastrianism dosent seem to be based on them either, but it may very well be (Dad has a Zoroastrian friend, quite a rare pleasure to meet someone of that path). Judaism dosent go into death to much, but it does have the "fear of god" factor. As we all know, Christianity (which actually started as a phillosophy, and through added stories became a religion) does have major fear of death/pain factors. As for Islam, Im not sure; I have to have one of my Lebonese friends come and teach me about Islam one day; Ive heard our English translations are lacking.

I know some who have me convinced their religion is "faith" based.
