View Full Version : Sticker Idea

Well, common sense finally prevailed and I removed my NRA and hunting club stickers from my car. With the amount of time I spend away from home, I didn't think the "guns in this house, please rob" stickers were a good idea anymore.
That got me to thinking about something else. Here in the Northeast, being an antihunter is pretty popular, and we've all heard stories about hunters returning to their vehicles to find tires slashed, windshields broken, etc. I'm thinking about finding some removable stickers or magnets for hunting season with the reasoning being, if some twit sees a car with "NRA, NAHC, XYZ sportsman club, etc" that might be a target for a rock or knife, but seeing a car pulled over in the woods with "Birdwatchers of America" and maybe a rainbow would make them think, "this is just a birdwatching homo, I hope he/she/it is safe from all those mean hunters".
Ideas on this? Please no BS "if someone breaks my window I'll break their back, etc", because they aren't going to do anything while you're watching, they'll do it when you're miles away and the bottom line is that you return from the woods to find you've got a long hike back to a payphone, as well as a bill for the damage.
I know it sounds like the chicken way out, and maybe it is, but is the risk of having your pride on your cars worth it? Is the flack you'll get from your buds worth the increased peace of mind that your car will still be in one piece when you get back?

I think its a great idea. PETA probably gives away free stickers. Your friends will probably adopt the idea once you explain it to them. I just wish I could get one of those "Imagine Whirled Peas" bumper stickers like I saw long ago.

I'd try to get something neutral, like "respect wildlife" or something similar. That way it isn't clear one way or the other...there are a few hunters still pissed at the tree huggers for damages to their stuff...

don't want to be a target for either group.

This is one of those "Why didn't I think of that posts?".

It's a good idea Tuna.
Maybe have some "Gay hunters for the homeless" & "I hunt to feed my family because I can't get work" stickers made.

Aslan, I was thinking about the negative reaction by hunters to PC stickers on the vehicle also, but, for the most part I don't think that that is a real issue. While I'm sure there are some bad apple hunters, for the most part, I think that most of us are respectful of other's stuff. I think the more realistic option would be to find an irate hunter waiting to see if you're carrying bolt cutters or a hacksaw to mess with stands, or a bullhorn to scare the animals, and would find it funny when it was explained. I may be overgeneralizing, but I think most hunters and sportspeople are more logic based than emotional, and would rather argue with a greenie than simply destroy stuff.

cool beans! Was way ahead of you in not advertising, but misdirection is a viable tool
tho outside my thinking (?)box.

I have never had any of my vehicles vandalized while I was in the woods. No decals or bumper stickers of any kind decorate anything I own. Putting "I Love Animals, Their Delicious" or " I back the NRA" is looking to get you problems. Same with a cute little UN dove. Rock throwing time. Your house should be the same way. Why advertise you have guns, or incite some idiot with "I don't call 911"? How would like a picture of that on your front door when your trial for defending your home starts? You would give a defense attorney a coronary.

I don't know about the liberal pinko faggot parts of the country, but I think here in the southeast, you'd be more likely to get trashed if you had PETA stickers on your car than anything else (unless it explained right under it that it stood for People Eating Tasty Activists).

I never had any trouble. 'Course it could have something to do with the big Florida Sheriff's Association tag on the front bumper. . .

Ummm, why not just put up a sticker that says "You win. I am scared." Sounds like something the French (or Spanairds) would do....lol.

Seriously, the above is a joke, but I will stop hunting before I have to resort to what amounts to asking their permission by hiding from them.

oh, I forgot, you guys don't live in bicycle distance of elk country. :-)

KJUN - you're right about hiding from them, and it does seem like a cowardly way to do things. But like I said, the people that I'm worried about are the ones who will damage property when I'm not there. It is pretty easy to drive around the woods to target a vehicle that belongs to a hunter, what I'm trying to do is not paint my vehicle as a target, or use "tactical deception" to look like a "non-combatant". Along the lines of putting a red cross on an APC, and last time I looked neither I nor PETA had signed the Geneva convention. :) Besides, the end justifies the means, and as long as the end result is that I have 4 tires to drive myself home after a hunt, I'm happy (of course I would have to remove the stickers before I parked the car at home to avoid having to kick my own ass).

Andy, I envy that you live in bicycle distance of elk country - but how the Hell are you going to get the elk OUT on a bike? Please, if you've done this, post a photo or even better, a video :)

oh, I forgot, you guys don't live in bicycle distance of elk country. :-)Let's see an actual hunting photo. I've shown several. Let's see just one, put up, or shut up.
