Looks like they did a nice conversion but its painful to look at. Hope the base is one of those cast SA receivers.

I hope that's not what I think it is. . .but I know it is fromt he rear sight.

If it's GI, someone needs a beating.

It it's off a new-production SA gun, then it's ok.

But. . .either way, they could have bought a Savage kit. . .Oh, forget that they could have bought damn near any sporter with scope for less than the base gun. . .

I may be wrong but I'd almost bet this was done in the late 50's to maybe ealy 60's when Garands were more common.

Don't excuse it though.

The add says;

"custom M1 Garand, Harrington and Richardson reciever with National Match sights. It has a custom walnut target stock and the gas system/barrel were shortened, runs flawlessly. THIS WAS DONE IN THE 1960,s"

I dunno, I've got a soft spot for Garands.

True, but you know someone could save it by buying and rebarreling/stocking it.

It looks OK, to me, very innovative. I'll post some pictures as soon as I get finished cutting the 7 1/2" barrel on my 2nd generation Colt SAA. I'm cutting it down to 2" for a pocket gun. When I get done with that I'm going to re-barrel one of my MK III* SMLE's to .45 ACP after I shorten the barrel and buy a composite stock for it. I have all sorts of good ideas!

We have the technology it can be saved

Technology yes, parts no. Trying to find an original H&R barrel in excellent condition would be hard not to mention extremely expensive. Now add an original operating rod, the gas cylinder parts, original wood with cartouches and the sum of the parts would cost more than buying an untouched H&R in collector condition. The rifle's collector value has been destroyed. It could be rebuilt into a nice military type shooter using a new made barrel and parts along with a Boyd's or Wenig stock but thats about all.

Yes, it could be a parts gun, like a Fulton job. It's historicity has been destroyed, but can be returned to mil-spec condition.

That's the thing with guns like these, once it been altered there's no way to return it to "original" condition.
