The real rattle battle is w/a 8 man team: 2 spotters (10x binocs only), 6 shooters firing @ 8 targets w/firing lines @ 600, 500, 300 and 200yrds and involves a "strategy" for best scoring as layed out here as the NTIT (national trophy infantry team): http://arizona.rifleshooting.com/it.htm
The modified 'rattle battle' is for individuals instead of teams and has very simple scoreing and rules as listed here: http://arizona.rifleshooting.com/northazmodifiedrattlebattle.pdf
I note competition is limited to your M1 and shots fired are 64 not 384. Hopefully things will go a little quicker. The 'MRB' will be in Flagstaff on Sept 17th and I will post more info as I get it.:)

I sent an e to Bill Poole, we'll have to see. Or, I'll make a call to a friend in Flag. The range @ Bellmont was scrapped by Gov. J N.:( The range @ Winona is too small for 600yrds?

Aslan, I have sent you the contact info via PM. Any other AZ shooters want to play this game, post here and I will forward the contact info (as opposed to posting my friend's home # on the web).
Looks like the Winona range!:)

pretty stupid assumption, fully exposed, stationary torsos as targets, with all that shooting going on, don't you think? At the most, 10" disks are the only targets likely to be presented while stationary. Such targets cause a LOT of missing at 400 yds, much less at greater ranges.

I'm trying to work the logistics for the week-end in question, it's not looking too bad right now...
Andy:
what combat experience do you have, and why is it that you believe that none of the skills involved in this meet translate to skills needed for combat?

Aslan, I have just heard that the start time for the Rattle Battle will be ~10:30AM, it will follow another match to be shot prior. I think I can do BOTH the Camp Verde Gun and Knife show and the Rattle Battle! I will be bringing an M1, M1A and FAL. Ron said, "Bring 'um!".:) There will be a gun for you to use. Finding the range will be the hard part for those unframilar w/the area. I'm pretty sure I can sniff it out. You should definately call the second name I gave you (Ron) for more info if you are going. A really nice guy. I am really looking forward to this comp., inspite of the above derision. Hope to see you there.

Just to let the interested know, it WAS a bit hard to find! Something about, "We don't want it to look like a range. We don't want people bringing out microwave ovens for targets.". Understandable, a "stealth range"!;) BTW, a steath 1Kyrd range! A great learning exersize. I "learned" you really need a spotter that can call your shots. No call = delayed next shot = eats up your time. My spotter was "learning". I can't say that I would have done better w/o a spotter, but might have. No excuses, I was pulling the trigger. And FUN too! Got into the Camp Verde Gun and Knife show AND the ModRatBat!
Another leason learned? FALs need not apply. I didn't even bring mine feeling that an M1 and M1A would suffice, They did, the FAL would not have. Sumptin about 6 min of wind that the FAL couldn't adjust for. At 600yrds your holding way off the target. Still a nice rifle for plinking...:) Under 200yrds, that is. I will pit my M1 or M1A against any iron sighted FAL anyday @ any range.
I'll post the next one and advise yawl to find one in your AO, bring water and have fun!
