Well, Rifle season opened here in Wis. on sat. I've been bowhunting and scouting for a month, and knew there were a couple nice bucks in the area. Friday I scouted around a little and things looked real good-lots of doe and fawn tracks- and a couple of the buck trails were used heavily. Sat. was in my stand at 5-30, and sat till 5-30 in the evening--not one deer seen. Something was up. On the way out I paid close attention to the trails, and the mystery was solved--Bear tracks. Sunday morn. checked the trails on the way in, no fresh tracks, Saw two fawns and two does-no shooters. Today, up at five and out on stand by 5-30. About 8:00, a doe and fawn came out about 40 yrds. I have a doe tag, but the fawn was small--still needs mom- so no shoot. About 11:30, I decided to have lunch. Was just openeng a sandwich when movement caught my eye about a hundred yards. Picked up the 30-30 just as a beautiful big bodied 10 point stepped out on the trail. Cross hairs rock steady, one shot and he reared up like a horse, whirled, and blasted back the way he came. No need to wait to trail this one. When I got within 10 yards I could see blood. LOTS of blood. A blind man could of trailed that deer. I followed at a slow walk and found him about 80 yrds. piled up. WOW. Typical 10 points(NO MONSTER) but a nice wide rack. Live weight over 200#, It should be real good eating. 150 gr. siearra pro hunter with 30 gr. 3031 behind the shoulder exited the other side, so could not recover the bullet, but sure did the job. Tomorrow I'll try to fill my doe tag, and post a couple of pics after season ends, if I can figure out how. (I took lots of pics of the buck in the woods) Hope everyone else is having some luck this season.

 You did good Chili. A good doe will come to you and you'll have months of good eating.

For something that is just your basic cup-and-core spitzer, I've been impressed with the Pro-Hunter.

I got nothing. Watched a huge doe for over a minute at less than 75 yards, but don't have a doe permit. Two saturdays in a row, I got nothing.

Correction, I didn't get 'nothing' the first weekend. I got an armadillo the night before gun season started. At "Granny's place", when locking the front door at night, saw it digging out in the yard. Grabbed the suppressed .22 pistol - no more alien pillbug. ;)

Fresh snow tonight, today was a bust. Two bucks I saw today,3 and 5 point- already filled the buck tag. OH WELL! Maybe tomorrow.
I've used pro-hunters for ever, and they always killed real well, no matter the caliber. Ya also can't go wrong with REM. Core locked. Both have real consistant performance. Not too hot on Hornady, but could be just my experience.Question---Do you really need PREMIUN bullets for whitetails?

Thanks, Rika, for the vote of confidence---It worked beautifully.!! A half hour before dark today I watched 7 deer come out-2 does and four fawns together. Didn't want to shoot moms or kids, so I waited. I'm glad I did. Following them was a BIG old dry doe. One shot, 100 yrds, she dropped in her tracks!(I found out after I field dressed her that I shot a little high-spine shot) She was dead before I got to her, and what a beautiful animal it was! It's almost as big bodied as the buck- It was all I could do to drag it up on the rack of my four wheeler after field dressing. I would guess 175 lb. dressed. If I can figure out how, I'll try to post some pics of both next week-too damn cold to do it now--single digits tonight, -20 windchill, and maybe a major snow on monday. Fall was nice while it lasted.

Had to skin the doe, but the buck is still intact. Had a cold snap, so he is frozen SOLID(below zero every night since nov. 30) I WILL take some pics with a digital camera, but have never posted any pics-ever. I'll have to figure out how to do it-old dog, new tricks.
