Jack knows that I don't balance my checkbook because I write so few checks. His gift was a Christmas card with all the checks I wrote him for the Mazda; undeposited and torn up. He told me I could write all the checks I wanted but he wouldn't deposit them. I was totally floored that he would do such a thing.

Nice of him, but kinda dishonest if y'all agreed on a deal where you could pay him, and he isn't living up to his part of it. You could always play "vice grip ping-pong" with his testicles. That usually gets men's attentions....lol. Sorry, I just always look for a reason to use that term. :)
Pay with a postal money order. If he rips it up, it's like throwing the money away - his choice. I've had to do that with family and close frineds that wouldn't take money I owed them, too. Family and friends can suck, can't they? LOL.

I just gave up. Jack has money and does pretty much as he wants. For me to carry things further would violate his sense of honor. I'll get back at him though because one of my talents is finding really unique things that he likes.

Isn't that all men. The ecret seems to be for women to make men believe that what they want is really what women want them to want, right? :headbang:

I guess that most all men do what they want. In Jack's case, I have never asked anything of him except his honesty and I have never tried to manipulate him. The car came as a complete surprise which I didn't need or ask for; it was just something that he took it in his head to do and it was too nice to refuse. Guess I'm lucky that he treats me as his equal and we are able to teach and introduce each other to new and interesting things. Its simply the finest relationship between a man and woman that I could ever dream of.

Cool, the whole movie set. I like In the Beginning and A Call to Arms the best.
Yeah, I think it's best that you learn to take "yes" for an answer, and be a lady and graciously accept the gift. He's a good man for tearing those checks up. Learn to accept people doing nice things for you. Not everything in life (and few things in love) are ruled by practicality.

I always wanted a Spyderco Police with the straight edge. They are oround a few local retailers, but alas;they want a bit more than I had to pay($100.00 and up!).Damn good knivesthough;I've had an Endura for years, and its handy as hell.
I DID give myself a belated Christmas present;ordered a CKRT Slidesharp ( for my CKRT's) and a 6 inch Cold Steel Ti-Lite stiletto from Knifeworks.I took a 4 inch one off of someone a while back, and opted to keep it. His loss was my gain since its suprisingly well made, and he was not in a position to complain.

My kids got me a Tasco 3x9 scope for my 30-30, and a ozark trails hunting knife. In expensive gifts are always the best. My wife gave me two framed lithograph pictures of John Wayne, and one hell of a huge duffle bag to put all my hunting gear in.

Can anyone explain why alot of the posters here, myself included, seem to like this TV and movie series. I have seasons 1-4 and my girl friend has just ordered season 5 now that I got her hooked on it. Maybe this ought to be another thread open for discussion on this subject?

I just gave up.
RIKA – I’ve spoken with Jack, and we came up with a solution that will suit everyone. Mail the checks (made payable to “cash”) to me. I’ll take care of the details.
You’re welcome.
At Christmas, I got an original 1951 edition of “The Day of the Triffids”. I used to watch the old BBC series in the 70’s, but had never read the book for some reason. As old as it is, there are a lot of parallels between it and more modern sci-fi/teotwawki stories; a testament to human nature, I guess. Examples of both the occasional randomness of survival as well as the importance of planning and threat analysis.
Being written in 1940’s British English, there are a lot of idiom/slang hurdles to get over. Things like “a burst of shots from the silencer”; it actually means “a series of backfires from the vehicle’s muffler”. That one caught me for a few seconds. All in all, pretty good book.
Beyond that, I got a “Winchester”-brand multitool / lockblade knife combo (but I’m not giving up my Wave and Buck 110), some movies (War of the Worlds, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Escape from Alcatraz, and Luther), and a bunch of chocolate and several thousand .22 shells. My family appreciates me being simple to shop for... ;)
Got my 14-year-old (among other things) a case of 9x18 and a new recoil spring for his Makarov.
Also got to shoot down the traditional mistletoe with a silenced pistol for the first time. Maybe I’ll let my then-15 year old do it next year.
Ahhh, memories... :dgrin:

I've never felt comfortable doing that. Looks funny, but I actually climb the tree and shoot DOWN and the mistletoe when I want to "harvest" some. Gives me an excuse to climb a tree, too. :nyah:

Don't fault you a bit there, I don't shoot "up in the air" often myself. But when it's 1200 acres of family-owned land, and it's subsonics out of a 22 pistol, I 'give myself leave' so to speak for one or two shots. Not something I do regularly.
And I do NOT climb trees anymore. Gravity sucks a lot harder now than it did when I was a kid. Unscientific perhaps, but true.
Besides, would you really want to see news footage of "Sasquatch Treed" just a day before Christmas...? :)

Wow... Good taste in spirits as well as women, and a cigar smoker to boot; I like him already. (Don’t have an unopened box of cigars, but have a couple partials, and I’d recommend an upgrade from Jack to W.L. Weller, but other than that...)

I always though that it was due to the ground being more compacted now than it was when I was younger. It sure FEELS harder, doesn't it? Maybe it is gravity getting stronger and not the ground gertting harder. METHING has changed, though, hasn't it?
Most of my injuries have been aquatic based. I'm just wanting to even it out with more terrestrial ones before I die. Should have seen me catching chickens in a neighbors tree the other night. They were laughing so hard that they couldn't even catche them once I dropped them down for them to cage up....lol.
