Old Ithica

My uncle passed away earlier this year and left me an antique Ithica side by side 12 ga. The company has gone out of busness, is there any way to find out how old it is by the serial nos. ? :headbang:

My resource books show Ithaca Hammerless side by sides show "old" manufacture between 1925 through 1948. Models varied widely. What gauge is yours? Does it have ejectors or not? As far as serial numbers if you give me the first four digits I can probablt narrow it down.

Thanks for getting back to me, its a 12 ga. with ejectors the nos. are 137103f

That serial number predates the 1925 manufacture. The Serial number range in 1925 was 400,000. There is a warning not to fire modern ammunition in guns serial numbered prior to 400,000. From what I can find, and this is just a semi-educated guess, I would say it was manufactured prior to WWI. I can't find any reference to the "J" in the serial number. Maybe someone else has more information.

Fjestad's Blue Book of Gun Value's is published every year, a copy should be available from Barnes' and Noble. You can save some money by ordering a used copy. Also check the Curio and Relic forums. SOmebody will have the information you want.
