Staking a pin????? Help!!!

The barrel link pin fell out of my 45 when I field stripped it for cleaning. Well I want to re-stake it. As I understand it, the staking process requires a burr being raised on the part.

Question is, do I raise the burr on the pin or on the barrel part. Think it has to be at the edge. I have a sharp pointed punch and a spring loaded punch, both lost in the junk but I can find them. Which is best to use?

Please help. I don't want to shoot the gun until this problem is fixed.

Rika- Since the link swings freely on the pin you can stake either but it's best to stake the pin enough to flare the edge out a little least IMHO.

Just to be sure I looked at my Wilson barrel and the pin appears to be staked itself.

Some of this may also depend on the width/length of the parts involved.

Thanks Ed, that makes sense since the pin is the cheapest part and all I want is to keep it from falling out.

Always WECSOG the cheapest component!

Unless you can easily hurt yourself by working on a different part. (Inherent danger while WECSOGING can override the least expensive part consideration....)
