How do you like this Mauser? Its a Spanish La Coruna Mauser. My Dad did it 36 years ago when he was young. Back then he didn't know he was bubba'ing the rifle and just wanted something for hunting.

let me see rika. it is most likely a 43, 46, 48, or 53 la corona. 8x57 mauser, it's got williams sites on it, a bueller saftey, neider but plate and grip cap, weaver scope mounts, the bolt handle looks like one that brownell's has been selling for ever, and i think that is a bishop, or a herters walnut stock. did he take the stripper bridge off himself? ya they call them bubba'd now but 30 yrs ago and today i still think a well made rifle is one that is put together for the intended purpose. that appears to be a fine piece of labor on your dads part. i wouldn't mind owning it myself and i have a couple of "bubba'd" rifles that look like they came out of one of the finest gun shops in europe. tis a nice piece of americana you have there, bet you wouldn't trade it for love nor money, and i couldn't blame you a bit.

NH, you have a excellent eye for detail. He took the stripper clip bridge off himself and filed the steps off the barrel sitting on the front porch of an el cheapo rental duplex holding the action between his knees and feet. He cut the barrel and re-crowned the muzzle with valve grinding compound and a brass screw held in a hand drill. The stock is a very rough inletted Bishop stock that he finished inletting with homemade and some store bought tools. Glass bedded with AcraGlas, of course. He drilled and tapped the sights himself and had the bolt welded on. It still groups 1.5 inches when I shoot it. You're right. Its not for sale for love nor money.

The metal plating on that mauser gives it a wondrous appearance. However, I was never a fan of the "sporterized"(is that even a word?) stock. However, your dad made that steel glisten like silver. That is defitely a nice one to hold onto, if purely for eye candy.(and the mauser means only good things)

Thank you. Dad said he used Oxpho blue to darken the metal. Part of the silver color comes from the bright outdoor lighting though the Oxpho has faded over the years. I could rust blue it easily but won't touch it for obvious reasons.

Thanks Rika and Coyote....but Had would be a better term. Lot of reasons for cutting back on what I had.

Space for them and time to shoot and reload for them all the biggest ones. I don't buy safe queens and if I don't shoot it I don't want it. Best to get it to some one who will enjoy it.

Oh BTW- The one on the bottom the BRNO ended up as a ahem..varmint rifle in .308. As that's what I had bought it for...very tight action bolt assembly looked like it was brand new but barrel was pitted.

The BRNO action makes for a beautiful custom rifle.
