ability to hit the 10" chest circle at 5 yds, if you dont let the shooters artificially get their bodies "set". make them pivot, shoot at targets above and below them (stairwell) etc, and you will see that pointing is limited t 10 ft or so. Ayoob's test was far too much stacked in favor of the point shooters, because it was slowfire, on the level ground and guys lacked their own pcs, whic would let them have a better chance to aim and press swiftly and properly. Appellgate just did the best he could with 50 rds and one day to train each man. Those whom point shooting let down never came back to complain to him, that's all. For realism, use dark house (black plastic sheeting over 2x4 framing, blanks fired over head, lights flashing, rice thrown on your head (near miss debris) and light swats of rolled up, SMALL number of pages\) newspaper (simulates minor injuries) and wear cotton gloves (simulates loss of fine motor control caused by adrenalin dump) Use MOVING 3d target, and move as you fire. Bet, say, $1000 on the outcome, to simulate a bit of stress, and run 50 ft in 5 secs, JUST prior to drawing. Then you will KNOW why everyone misses the chest so much at a mere 10 ft, even tho you have the advantage of hearing protection, lack lethal stress, arent hurt or surprised, etc. You will then also scoff at this "shot placement" stuff, learned an unarmed art, and wear armor at all times!

I don't find this scenario particularly realistic. But if it works for you, then cool.

I think a bunch of 13 year old laser taggers would ace it, myself. :nyah:

A more realistic target is the torso. The 10 inch circle is a tie breaker for IPSC type matches

Personally, I don't have a problem with match stress. If you are there to be the best you can do, why get stressed. If an individual has stress due to low self esteem and is trying to prove something to others maybe shooting isn't a sport to partake in. It is my belief that practice eliminates most match stress, unless it is self induced by having a grudge competition with a friend. On average I shoot about 7-9 matches a year in 3 different disciplines. Matter of fact my first match of the year is next weekend.

Eh, I get some match jitters, but a few shots of bourbon beforehand usually takes care of that. :-punch:

why are we re-running these posts - is someone trying to give me indigestion?
They were funny the first time around, now they're just sad...sad reminders of a sad little man.
