Just this week I was reading an article in Gun Week magazine where she wrote a letter to the acting commissioner of the U.S. Border Patrol concerning the easy availability of .50BMG rifles. Her "concern" is with the threat of snipers in Mexico being able to use such weapons to fire at border patrol officers.

She states:
I have long been concerned about this issue and have introduced legislation which would, at least, address the problem by treating these weapons under the same regulations that govern machine guns, rather than .22-caliber rifles as is presently the law.

Well EXCUSE ME, but since when can a US Senator do a damn thing about what Mexico does within it's own borders? How is her proposed legislation going to restrict Mexicans from being able to procure and use such firearms if they choose to do so?

It never fails to amaze me why our "representatives" in Congress apparently don't have to take a basic intelligence test in order to qualify for their job. Or maybe drug testing would be in order.......

She's well aware of what she's doing and she's not being stupid. She is relying on everyone else being stupid, to not realize as you did that she cannot pass laws for Mexico. She can, however work to ban .50bmg here in the U.S., which is her actual goal.

The Mexican border situation is just an excuse, a smokescreen for those too stupid to actually think about it.

She wants to get rid of all guns and any opportunity to get rid of one she will take.

Well the obvious answer is for the border patrol to have .50BMG rifles as well so they can shoot back! And since USA citizens living in the USA side of the border are at risk as well, they certainly should be able to protect themselves from those Mexican terrorists, don't you think?

Well I have to wonder why we do have borders in the first place. What is supposed to be their purpose? If they are "good" and "necessary" then certainly they should be enforced and protected. But if they are NOT "good" and "necessary" and aliens can cross them at will and then get amnesty, then why have them at all?

But back to the original topic, how many native Mexicans could even afford to have a .50BMG? I seriously doubt they are legal in Mexico anyway, so anyone who would happen to have one and use it would likely be pretty inflential in Mexican government. Heck we have all heard horror stories about someone getting thrown into a Mexican prison for just going into Mexico with a .223 casing or such. So a private Mexican citizen owning a .50BMG? Not unless they ARE in the government or some untoucheable drug lord.

That whole story just has about as much BS heaped in it as anything I have ever seen put into print. Someone should take that letter, roll it up and bitch slap Feinstein with it for using tax payers dollars for the time and effort to create it.

No one could afford it, except the ones that the people jumping the border are running from, and being a military cartridge, is is illegal in Mexico.
