What is the best you can do at 100 yards? Wolf 122 Grain FMJ out of all three of my Yugoslavian 59/66 gives me no better than slighly under 4 inches. The Chinese full size gives about three and 1/2, and the Paratrooper back up to four. With Lapua groups shrink a little, but not much. ANyone doing better?

Man that's the best I've ever done. Before I sold them off after getting an AK, I had 2 SKSes, and they'd both do about 4-5" groups but only with Bernual ammunition on a good day.
I have heard that people are getting better results by installing some aftermarket peep sights which gets it down to 3-4" groups supposedly.
Part of it is that it's a battle carbine, part of it is that most of us (speaking for myself here) don't have the kind of eyesight necessary to make full use of what the iron sights are theoretically capable of.
But honestly, considering what the SKS is meant to do, as long as you can put it within 12 inches of whatever it's being aimed at, that should suffice. The challenge in my book is being able to replicate my marksmanship conistently under any conditions. Of course you could work your whole life and never accomplish that... but I digress.
4-5 inches is about all I can do with the SKS.

3.5-4" is the best I get, and that's with a like-new barrel.
That short sight radius and the fact that they are built loose conspire together against you.

With an old Eagle arms import( milled receiver, screwed in stepped barrel) I consistantly did 3 inches at 100m as it came . A bit of judicious trigger work from an old (possibly deceased )acquaintance in Nashu NH,and I was able toget it down to 2-2.5 inch groups from the sandbags.SKS's were always natural shooters for me. A Tula (1950 dated) SKS that was in my posession back when I was legal did almost as good without any tweaking.Very carefully widened the notch (squared) BARELY a hair or so,just to get the sight picture a little better.
Bear in mind, these were shot mostly with Chicom steel core, and some of the old E.German steel core as well. I suspect that some of the heavy(for the cartridge) loads ,like the 154 grain stuff would do better.

I have a Romainian SKS that shoots beer cans off a log at a hundred yards ! Thats with old Norinco 7.62x39 FMJ ammo I bought 12 years ago.Hey, I like mine alot when I get in the SKS - AK47 mood. My only regret is I didn't buy a russain back when they were dirt cheap. I think I paid hundred bucks for my Romainian.

What I had some one hold for me during my legal troubles was a Russian SKS,laminate/blade bayonet-Tula 1950 and an all milled Chinese that had been bubba'd with a monte carlo synthetic stock, williams aperture rear&firesight fiber optic front.Heavy ,stepped barrel.I don't recall the arsenal mark, since I've not re-taken possesion yet.Oh ,yeah ,and a few thousand rounds of steel &lead core ball from my "bad tiimes " stash, related parts &tools ,etc.
The SKS is one of those "primitive" rifles that simply works no matter how un-refined it is. Gotta love it!

I watched a gentleman shoot "1 minute of elephant" at a 3 gun match last month.

My eyes aren't as good as they used to be, I can no longer see a pale beer can at 100 yards. But when I was first introduced to the SKS it had to pass certain tests before I would accept it as my favorite gun, and keep it.
1 Accuracy
2 Noise
3 Cost to Shoot
Well, I can roll and empty WD40 can at 50 yards and keep it bouncing.
The noise is very low
but, my ammo is still on Back order.

I like your Victory model. It looks just like mine. Is yours in 38 S&W Or Special? My victory was issued to the Austrailian Police. U.S. Property Marked in 38 S&W. I keep mine in my night stand for special visitors...

Thats a nice victory! Good pics! My step daughter has a digital camera i should have her take pics of mine. I'll get her to do that when she returns from North Carolina. Besides the 1917 the victory is my other favorite revolver. Actually I have a long list of favorite revolvers but the Victory ranks high with me.

OK another note, I took a bead on a very small target at about 40 yards, Got feathers for my hat. Also I set a spray can out right on 75 yards, it was very hard for me to see it. I propped of something and took a steady aim, right on the money. I like SKS.
