Got another .303 rifle to replace one I sold of a couple years ago.

Not as sharp overall as the other but I paid $80 less and this one has a walnut stock plus it does have a very clean and sharp bore.with the 6 or is it 8? L&G rifling, trying to look and count all them is amking me dizzy, anyway definitly not a 2 L&G one.

Note: Pics and a range report will come next weekend time permitting. This weekend I'm working 12's on my other job.

Glad for ya. Range report please & photos. :) Do you have any sources for reasonably priced 303 ammo? I have been talking and talking about a No.4, Mk1; about ready to open my wallet and let some moths fly out if I can find a good one locally.

Rika- With regards to ammo I don't. I was lucky when I bought my first N0.4 that some Winchester ammo in .303 was traded in also. So I bought it 100rds and a set of dies so I could shoot and then reload the brass.

I'm thinking that all of us will have to reload the 303. At least 303 is an easy cartridge.

.303 is a reload, or buy expensive commercial ammo prospect at this point.

Ed: If it's a right hand twist it's 2 or 5 groove. If it's left hand twist, it's a six-groove (basically a Bren machinegun barrel -- they're made on the same machines).

I just loaded 60 rds last night, I'm taking my #4 Mk1 (T) out this weekend. Be advised that because of the web design in the cartridge case you will only get 4-5 reloads out of each cartridge case. It is highly adviseable to spend the money and buy a broken case extractor right up front from Bownells. I'm currently loading Sierra 174 gr FMJ Match bullets with 39.0 grains of IMR 4895 with an overall length of 3.030". They are fantastic rifles! So Ed, who manufactured the rifle that you bought?

Okay I'm pretty sure it's a six goove one then. Been on the run since early this morning not much time for me to breath today. I'll just be glad if it's as half as accurate as my No.4MkII was.

Garand- I hear you on case life, 5 times is the most I'll reload a bottle neck case in a non-magnum cartridge; not counting other factors such as chamber specs.

As to make I didn't look it over too much plus I'm rusty on the markings. I'll have to look them up tomorrow. Right now I'm at work so that'll have to wait. I'm hoping it's a Fazarkley(sp?), just to have fun with people at the range when they ask what make of rifle I'm shooting. :dgrin:

Garand, have you tried neck sizing between full-length resizing? I generally get more than 5 reloads doing that.

Ed: if you take Garand's load with the matchkings he posted, I think you'll be well-pleased with what that rifle can do.

Okay I took some pics and looked the gun over.

On the left of the reciever above the trigger it's stamped M47 then 1943.

On the right(ejection side) it's got a 4-digit serial number? starting with 5***

On the grip area of the butt stock just behind the trigger guard is stamped JC N22 then a arrow type point with a crown below.

And the left side of the reciever "flat" has No 4MK 1 lightly stamped on it.

M47 was the BSA factory in the suburbs of Birmingham England . JC N22 means that the furniture is from John Curtis and Sons Ltd, Leeds, West Yorkshire. Also be advised that there are 12 different front sights for the Lee Enfield #4 Rifle, each has a different sight. Get a few from Gun Parts Corp for zeroing when you get yourself a load that you are happy with.

Hot Diggity! BSA was my next hope next to Fazarkerly's.

One day next week I hope to make it to the range to try it out.

Okay, I shot it today and she does want to shoot high as usual.

I then checked GPC online and no front sight kits listed anymore! :headbang:

So for now, since she's gonna be a hunting rifle for me I'm thinking of an ivory bead front sight of the proper height. Does anyone know if such an animal exists orsomething close that will just replace the current front blade without any gunsmithing?

I like those enfields (its my sons favorite) now if I could just find some cheap ammo.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v25/copycat/enfield/enfield14.jpg

Well I just reload mine anymore for it.

I buy the Sierra 180 gr #2310 for both it and my loads for my M-44
