Here's a picture of my 38-40. It is in pretty much the same condition as I got it, other than I cleaned and lubricated it. (I don't want to do too much to it as I want it to be as original as possible.)

Now that I've shown you mine, show me yours....

Okay, heres mine. VG original condition, blue turning to gray, with excellent bore. Aslan, you have a pretty rifle.

Yours is none too shabby either, Miss Rika.

Now I have to get me a pistol in the same caliber and I'll be all set...

Aslan, did you know that the 38-40 is actually 40 caliber, actually .401 I think. The 41 LC can be fitted with a 38-40 cylinder (and vice versa) and it will shoot just fine as long as the lands and grooves in the barrel are good. I'm a big 38-40 fan too. :)

yup, it's a .401

I didn't know you could get a cylinder for a .45lc....

Hmmm, the wheels are a turning....

Very nice! My Dad owns a Marlin in 25/20 that is just as beautiful.

Aslan, its the 41LC thats compatible. The 45LC barrel is much too large.

T. Daves, those Marlins are fine rifles. I think John Wayne's Mod 92 was chambered .25-20.

I auto-piloted my response and was thinking 41, but typed 45, oh well - good catch!

I have a '73 reciever sitting in my desk..Maybe i'll assemble it as a .38-40 instead of .44WCF..... next winter's project methinks...

Kpd the 38-40 and the 44-40 are so similar ballistically that you would be hard put to slide a dime between them to find the difference. That receiver will make a great project.
