Hey...Just wanted to say hello to everyone... have been hanging around in the background for quite some time... just thought I would go ahead and join... hang out at some other boards like Frugal's, etc... occasionally.
Wasn't sure that I really wanted to join after seeing that "Gunkid" was on this board.. but, I will see how it goes.

Thank you all for the gracious "welcome"... I am looking forward to reading and sharing...with a few reservations...I am a bit surprised that John Russell, a.k.a. JOHN MELVIN DAVIS, a.k.a. Gunkid, Andy, pick a nickname ad-nauseum has actually been on this board since 2004...I have been seeing this guy since the late 90's and have watched many a good forum go to heck in a handbasket because of him... how do you guys deal with the disruption...and well the...venom....??? I have left a few boards just because it became almost impossible to have a decent discourse about anything because of him and the rancor he stirs up... just wondering...not trying to start a flame war or anything...

dealing with bad posts made by anyone:

Well, sometimes we ignore the bad posts, sometimes we engage the bad posts (it's the whole arguing with an idiot thing), sometimes we ridicule the bad posts, and sometimes the bad poster is banned for three days. And once in a while we pretend the bad post was a good one and try to hold a conversation.

The key (for me at any rate) is to simply have fun and not let the bad post or bad poster get you upset. Enjoy this place in spite of it all.

Take the approach of "no matter how many problems your life seems to have or whatever challenges you are facing, you're still better off than the worse troll you're likely to encounter."

Brings a smile to my face every time, no matter who the particular troll is I'm dealing with at the time.

Welcome aboard. As long a people don't spit venom back at "andy," things are not that bad. It takes two to argue - he can't do it alone. Besides, give us a little time, and we'll moderate the venom off the board everywhere except the Rubber Room. Just stay out of there if you don't want to read it. :)

The crappy advice, etc. stays, though. Freedom of speech and all that gives us the right to stay crap if we want, too.
