It never hurts to have a backpack full of goodies with you. Remember the pack needs to be light and without restricted items such as firearms.
Backpack
Nylon Zip Bag
Survival Knife
Compass
Small Folding Saw
Fishing Line and Hooks
Sewing needles
First Aid and Snake Bite Kit
Flare gun with Flares
5 Minute orange smoke bombs
Ohio BlueTip Matches
2 Tarps
1 Blanket
Nylon Cord (Not Rope)
Water Purifying tablets
Calorie Bars
Baby Wipes
That about does it. There's plenty ways to use these items so be creative.
Mongoose, do a search for "bob". There are many great posts on this subject.

All the BOB kit lists that I've read say to carry a sewing kit. You'd be surprised though how many people can't sew a button on.....let alone stitch a seam.
I was once told that clothes will keep you warmer without a fire than a fire will without clothes.
Learn to sew.
The only other comment I have is this........my best friend is a nurse. He had a patient come in with a copperhead bite on her leg. The latest "research" says that snake bite kits are bogus. The "venom" you see them pull out is really moisture from your own body. That makes the wound worse because it dries the tissue around the bite. I'm no doctor, but there is a reason that is bad, but I can't remember right now.
Anyways, I asked a doctor friend of his if that just applied to the old green suction cup type snake bite kits or if it applied to the Extractor brand that I've been carrying for 10 years........he said they all stink. Won't do a bit of good.
He also said never use a tournequit (sp) on a snake bite. You are better off to let it go throughout the body.......that way the venom dillutes.
