Six and one half years into the 21st Century and we are still kicking the **** out of each other ( or gearing up to)for pretty pitiful reasons. North Korea, like a badly spoiled six year old, starts firing missiles pretty randomly, "because no one is paying attention to them." Japan is freaking out, because the missiles are coming close to them and so they are furiously studying their constitution to see if they can hit North Korea with a pre-emptive strike. Since Japan hasn't fought anyone, nor had a a really ARMY or NAVY or AIR FORCE for over sixty years one wonders if they know how. Lebanon and Israel are having a really good dust up, and it looks like some other Lebanon -friendly nations are going to join in. (Slow day in the Muslim world.) The U.S. is still stuck in Iraq for God know's how long, and the body-count rises. (Did anyone notice the price of gas going up? I though part of the idea of stabilising Iraq was to stabalise the price of oil, foolish me. Garand, do they draft foreigners in Canada?

Canada has an all volunteer army. Recruitment standards are very high these days, very little hope of a gunkid type getting in these days. In the late 80's and early 90's we had rather embarrassing problems with our Airborne Regiment which was being used by the mainstream Infantry Regiments as a place to "dump the garbage". We got rid of the Regiment and CO's of the 3 main infantry regiments were made to "sort out their own ****". Our special ops unit "JTF2" recently was awarded the US Presidential unit citation for their work in Afganistan.
