Everyone brags about their new guns. It's human nature, But I have to rave about this M-1 Garand. Service Grade, not the top of the line, (they weren't available) It's BEAUTIFUL! Stock dings, of course, but the bore, chamber, and trigger group are pristine. No scratches on the metal, and the trigger is two stage, but crisp. I'm ONE happy camper. I can't understand people buying these on gun auctions ( a lot of crap there, I've seen it)for $900.00 to $1100.00 when CMP sell's these jewels for little more than half that. I'll tear it down, clean it, (It;s ALREADY Clean!!) and pop some rounds down range, and see if it shoot's as good as it look's. :bird: :bird: :eatpointe :eatpointe

I think that you will enjoy that Garand immensely, Terry. Looking forward to your range report. BTW are there any govt markings on the stock (cartouches)? And what is the barrel date? (Pull the slide back and lock it. The date is located on the rearmost part of the barrel just under the operating rod cutout.)

Terry, heres a link for assigned serial number ranges so you can know what year your Garand was made. One of our Garands was made in 1943 and the other in 1950. If only they could talk.

RIKA :)RIKA, some block engravinf forward of the left pistol grip, not what I would call "cartouches". Looks lik B17 FK in a block. No date where you suggested, just SA and a series of numbers. The receiver say's SPringfield Armory M-1. It's in the five million range. The metal is unbeliveable for a fifty plus year old rifle.

So how it shoot? Looks like it has a real nice stock. You planning on linseed oiling it? A little steam take care of any dents. M1's are great rifles and lots of fun. I own a Springfield 1943 and a Winchester type 2. I would never part with em. Enjoy the Garand........
