I've seen one of them close up at the one museum down in Texas.
If that's what I think it is; a WW1 "anti-tank" rifle.
You're right Ed. A WW1 anti-tank rifle. Caliber about 12.5 mm. They upgraded the armor about the time the Germans fielded them. Weren't used much.
Question is, can it be canned? :D

Cal :0.51 in. (13.35mm ) I would not mind trying to fire one. I've only ever seen one in private hands. Bet its a fun shooter or hell on the shoulder. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/51/Musee-de-lArmee-IMG_1006.jpg/300px-Musee-de-lArmee-IMG_1006.jpg

Several .50BMg rifle prototypes I fired were similar: No recoil pad or muzzle brake.
Now I know what Elemer Fudd felt like every time he got shoved back off the screen when he fired at Buggs or Daffy. :dgrin:

http://tirmilitaire.ifrance.com/FABRICE/G%2098.htm I have another link for mausers that can be considered interesting. French site with nice color pics. http://tirmilitaire.ifrance.com/FABRICE/photos%20sites/G98/1900.50.jpg
Cool site. Thanks. The scope on that rifle looks exactly like the one on my 1920's Mauser sporter.
