use a 110 to 130gr bullet out of your 30/06 will make it a not to bad coyote gun. it'll shoot flat and i can bet it will hit harder on the target than your sholder. it will cost a little more to shoot but it will pay for itself with accuracy.

I'd use the SKS for yote hunting as long as they were in range. Might be fun.

Amen on the shoulder, and the ears too.
Like the man said, I load up 100grners in my 270, you need ear plugs bad to shoot em, but the bullet gets there just right before you pull the trigger, they are fast, and flat, and the make the Yoties explode.

The SKS is a challenge to hit one with, for me, but the quiet lack of recoil, makes it fun to try.

Out west we have to bait em in unless we want a 400 yard shot.

I thought I was the only one to call em Yotes or Yoties :eatpointe

Not hardly I refer to them the same way.

Not much on using an SKS mself, unless restocked to fit my hands better. As the safeties always seem to gouge into my trigger finger, spoiling a good trigger pull and follow through.

For the limited time when we could use .30cals in regular yote season here I liked the SPEER 125gr "TNT" HP.

When the hell is yote season. Around here we shoot on sight day or night.

In Arkansas when one is not on private property. Otherwise they were committing depredation on livestock. :dgrin:

If you go bu the actual seasons you can take them pretty much year round but you're stuck with either .22rimfire or shot unless during a firearm deer season, IIRC as I've not gone through all the regs for this year.

BTW- I'm not advocating poaching yotes, in my last post, as I do tend to hunt them where and when they are causing trouble on farm land.

Here in Utah you can shoot the things all year, but you must have a Dear Hunting Licence to pack a rifle during Dear Hunt Season if you are in "Dear Hunting Area", wich the yotes aren't, usually.

With an SKS that you work with a lot,it could be done. I'd not get carried away with scopes, though. A good trigger, some kinfd of hi-viz sights(better aperture or a ghost ring),and consider the heavy for caliber loadings availablt. Any here know if the 154 grain stuff is still available? Back when I could, I favored that combo.
