this is mere speculation on my end !!!, but given the simple facts that
1] 60 degrees temp is the yardstick/benchmark of propane and it's nature
2]a ODORANT is added,,,for a reason!,,, even in the snot-nosed WINTER- MONTHS
3]a liquid leak of massive preportions would be needed, for this 'BOOM' ,or not,as a vapor leak inside a sealed building is just as BAD!
4]liquid freezes the mostiure/water molecules in the air creating WHITE FOGGY CLOUDS that since it's 1.5 times heavier than air WILL SETTLE IN IT'S LOWEST POINT
5]again, mere guessing on my part, but I'M leaning toward ignorance of the product INVOLVED!,,wet-towels and a VENT-STACK[10' piping 3"dia.] are a must when combating an uncontrolled loss of product, simply to KEEP THE NATURE OF A DIRTY/EXPLOSIVE ATMOSPHERE from going BOOM!!!

HEY, I'VE had [1] that could have been "hairy-assed-bad" one time myself,
and I'M SORRY PEOPLE DIED FROM OUR FRIENDLY-ENERGY

ANYWHERE/ANYTIME FRIEND 'propane' :headbang:

PLEASE,WHEN IN DOUBT, JUST SHUT THE '****IN' TANK OFF!,,,THEN GO RUNNING/SCREAMING,,,AWAY!

damn, that place was flattened.

I'm surprised that the gas built up to a degree that it became explosive and not just flammable. Aren't there emergency shutoff valves for that stuff, like on gasoline stations? I thought I saw one at the welding supply store where I refill my tanks.

I THANK-YOU, MY BROTHER!, this answered/spelled it out for ME!
as the 'product' is 4.2 lbs per gallon in weight,[the nearest set I can picture in my minds-eye would be a couple of hundred gal. D.O.T. tanks/that, or, the 500 pound tanks should have said/read 500 GALLON TANKS hooked-up in tandum] and fire marshal mr.lewis statement of living/passing by that operation for 52 YEARS! it was a definite "low-pressure" vapor [less than 1/2 p.s.i.]
leak inside the STRUCTURE![the photo don't lie] still it's sad news,,,ALTHOUGH, IT wouldn't
have HAD THE SAME 'GUT-SHOT' IMPACT ON ME ,,,'iffin' it would have HAPPENED AT ,,,LETS SEE HERE,,,HHMMmmmmm  "MARTHA'S-VINYARD" WHEN "CLINTON an COMPANY" show-up to HANG-OUT!

I worked in St. Pete., Fla when a big propane tank blew up part of a trailer park. It nearly vaporized a few close trailers. It totaled a few more and damaged and knocked off of 'foundations' almost half the park. A big BOOOWHOOSH and felt the shock wave 3/4 block away, shook the building. A old man seen the fill spout blazing and ran sounding the alarm and saved many lives.

YES-SIR! a BLEVE[boiling liquid expanding vapor explosion],,, is THE WORST!
