Anyone here do any urban hiking / backpacking? It really shakes out your gear, and puts to rest a lot of "what if" scenarios.

I've been a backpacker for over 20 years now. There's few things in life that I enjoy more.
I also do what's called period trekking......where I go backpacking taking only items that would have been common in the 1700's. That'll teach ya a few things too!

Can you give me some examples, and/or links to examples and uses of the examples? I've done stuff like flint knapping by pressure flaking, etc but that's about it.
It sounds really cool.
I've been listening to podcasts on ultralight backpacking. One guy went the length of the PCT with a sub 6lb base gear weight, which excludes food and water of course. It really focuses on multiple uses of items, which is a principle of survivalism.
