About 75% of the time my sks jams on the 7th round. I got a new gas valve from cnc thinking that would fix it but it did not. It did help throw the ejected shells with more force but the 7th round continues to jam. The point of the bullet gets stuck just below the chamber. I have only used wolf military classic hollow points 122 grn. The sks is not modified from stock in any way (that I am aware of) all numbers match.
What can I do?

Have you made sure your gas tube, block junction ,gas piston to the bolt is clean? Also double check and see if you removed all cosmoline residue in the action. What model SKs rifle do you have? Is it a Yugo with a grenade launcher set up? Make sure the gas system cut off is set in correct position. One other thing, what does the shell case rims look like after extraction?

Sounds like a feeding problem...check and make sure there is no cosmo/gunk in the mag assembly parts including all nooks and crannies.

It does have the grenade launcher and I have made sure the gas assembly is clean. When the gas switch is turned it no longer acts as a semi auto, so I know the switch is in the right spot. I have made sure all the cosmo is off the parts but I could double check all the nooks and crannys. Also that magazine spring needs looking at and maybe replaced(thank you, I hadn't thought of that). I haven't taken the sks shooting in a while so I can't tell you about the cases.

Well I've got good news and bad news. The bad news is my membership to the range expired 5-1-07. So I wasn't able to find out if that little bit of cosmoline on the magazine spring was causing all my problems. The good news is that the Honey Nut Brown Ale that I brewed came out really good and is helping me to forget how bad I wanted to go shooting. Maybe I'll go out to the BLM land tomorrow.
Sorry about your membership expiration. Hope the SKS works okay. Now .... how about a recipe for that Honey Nut Brown Ale. :)

Thanks! I printed it out. One of the things on my short list of to-do's is to make beer and wine. The homebrew I've tasted was really excellent. Another thing is to make hard cider. A friend poured some homemade cider into a mason jar and froze it. What remained and poured was high octane from heaven. Besides, home brewing would be a lot of fun.

That's funny you should say that. I just took the sks out last weekend so my son could shoot it. I was going to get him a .243 for hunting next year and I thought the recoil of the sks would be about the same as a .243. I took a close look at the mag before he started shooting and bent the metal arm a little bit to change the angle that the cartridges feed. Well my son only fired 10 rounds because it was only about 5F outside but there were no jams or problems. I'll have to take it out next weekend to see if this was a fix.

After I bent the metal thing inside the mag I haven't had any problems. I did notice when I was having problems that the wolf military classic was worse than the other brands. You would think Russian ammo in a Yugo gun would go hand in hand...

id get a new mag to be on the safe side ... you trust your life with a bent piece of metal ? i wouldnt

If it is ALWAYS on the 7th round, I was thinking along these same line...OR that there is a burr/dent at that point of the mag body or guide where the follower hangs. Get a hand lens and look close - I'd be surprised if a SMALL ding did it, but...... Smooth it out and get a replacement spring as a start. That's my suggestion.

Thanks KJUN. Where were you when Brass was making fun of me for buying junk? It was originally Rika who gave me the idea to look at the magazine spring. Thanks again everyone for all your help. Now to find a replacement spring...
