I found a thread on the net saying that C.T. Bryan had a few take-out Colt barrels for sale. I contacted him and found the lead correct. Tim represented to me that they were take-out barrels, and nothing more. I bought two from him on that basis.

The barrels arrived today. As you can see from the attached photo, he had undertaken to weld up the hoods and lower lugs. He even crowned the barrels for me. I had not asked him to do that - he did that just to be a good guy, I suppose.

In these days of so many companies who have only a "what's in it for me" attitude, I found Tim's efforts, which were neither requested nor anticipated, very, very refreshing, and I thought that this extra effort on his part should be publically noted.

Looks like he doesn't just build quality guns - looks like he's also a quality guy.

Best,
Jon

About how much is he asking for these?

Hi, Gunfixe. I paid him $60 apiece for these. I have since spoken to him to email and he says he does have additoinal Commander-length and 5" barrels that he'll part with. However, he also said the additional barrels will be less because he doesn't have time to weld the others up or crown them before sending out, so if you get some from him they'll be in stock configuration.

I spent a couple of hours with hand files last night and fit one of the barrels to a Colt Series 70 slide, and it worked beuatifully. The weld job was superbly seamless - can't tell that the hood has been welded a'tall!

Best,
Jon

. . . and, BTW, its "T.C.", not "C.T." Got a friend we call CT, and I guess my aging brain is stuck in that loop.

Or, perhaps it's just my Somezheimers acting up again.

Best,
Jon
