View Full Version : Scott (Norman) Fones [BAD GUY]

Rich Z

Back on July 23, 2007, a friend of mine sent me an email asking how much he should pay for a Colt Python Silver Snake model. He indicated that the seller was asking $2,000. My response to him was that if he did not buy it for that price, then I would.

About a day goes past and I figured my friend was going to buy it, when I got this email from him (Tony):

Rich,

Email the guy if you want it. I offered to buy it for 1700 and he is still shopping it around to other people. Said he would get back to me after some other person responds to his offer to sell for 2k. I told him to forget it. I've got another gun I'm looking at and don't want to lose out on both of them ao I'm not waiting around for him. He never even said he'd take the 2k for sure. If you want it, its yours.

Tony

His name is Scott. I told him a freind of mine from Florida might want it.

Hmm, OK. So I fired off this email..

Sound pretty much like a done deal, doesn't it?

I needed the info for my FFL guy, so I followed up with this:

And his reply (which sure sounds like everything is just honky dory with this deal):

So with the info I needed, I ran to my FFL guy and the post office:

Rich Z,

I have been catching some flack about getting rid of this i am concerned that i may be acting to soon, i hate to do this but i am going to think about it for a while longer and let it sinkl in good before i jump to selling it after all it did belong to the family and i am not hurting for the money. I will let greentop know that the transfer will not be coming so they can destroy the ffl, if you will let your shop know as well, if in the future i decide to get rid of it i will give you first shot at the price we talked about.

Scott

Such strong words i apoligized for changing my mind and gave you first chance if i sell it in the future. I feel as though you are threatening me, i am not a dealer and do not sell firearms on the internet. This being first attempt to sell one leads me not use this outlet in the future. I understand your feelings are hurt and you are out the cost of a money order but unfortunatly i have just changed my mind at this time. I in no way did this on purpose and had no intention of JERKING you around. I am sorry for the inconvience.

Yeah, I was getting pretty hot over this by now:

Rich, I know that you are disappointed. I am one of those rare ones, like you, who feels that a man's (woman's) word is their bond. I honestly think that Fones was having seller's remorse. He probably wasn't thinking about getting more money cuz 2K is almost a king's ransom for a pistol; he was probably just regretting selling it.

"You are displaying a notable lack of character and ethics and pointedly displaying strong evidence that you have no concern at all about giving your word."

You are absolutely correct but there are a lot of people in this world who are exactly like that - most people in fact. I could tell you about my trying to buy a replacement 1988 Ford like the one an idiot crapped out for me. She (the owner) wanted 5K cash for it. I checked out the car and tried to make an appointment for her to sign the papers and get her money. She stalled and wanted $2500 more cuz she thought she could squeeze me for it. I told her to go to hell and where she could stick her car in her oversized a$$. Mexican bitch selling it for her grandfather.

Damn. I hope a nicer Python comes along soon for you.

Something is wrong with your editor. I wanted to add that this wasn't just an ordinary Ford, it was a totally loaded 1988 Crown Vic. God I loved that car.

And I hate it when people try to play me on both when buying.

Sorry dude, disagree with your assesment... Shoulda just told him to go pound sand, shove said colt up butt or whatever... You did bring up the Lawyer word- That is usually meant and percieved as a threat...Sorry ya didn't get the gat, but didn't sound like he was tryin' to bleed more $$$ outta ya, think he just woosed out, hope you find a better deal somewhere else, with somebody willing to go thru with the deal...We've all been jerked around before with goobers like him, whether it's cars, guns or whatever.

I personally do not see bringing up the word 'lawyer' as a threat at all. Lots of lawyers are sweet wonderful people, salt of the earth. :)
Had it been me, I might have sued for specific performance, and told Tony his services in instituting the suit would be HIS BD gift to you, lol; and I would have asked the judge to give you costs as well as the gun. There's a lot of gun toting law and order in Florida so likely the judge would see things your way, and from all accounts Connie is very nice and she was giving you a BDE gift for gosh sakes; how could you lose a suit like that?
You have 2 years, he still has the gun. Go get it, tiger.

Lucille, with respect to you and the fact that I am not a lawyer, I will make the following observations.

Q. How much will it cost to effect recovery?
A. Probably more than $2000.00.

Q. Who will prevail in court?
A. Its a toss-up. Whoever has the better lawyer; judge only or jury; will Fones even let it get to court without settling?

Q. Who will be the ultimate winner?
A. The lawyer. They always win because they get paid whether they win or lose. Then too, they most always work by the hour with their secretarys and law clerks doing the grunt work while they charge lawyer wages for their employee's efforts.

$2000.00 is a small sum, relatively speaking. I wouldn't do it for that amount.

Now Lucille, before you get all hot and bothered, I'm not attacking you. There are some good lawyers out there but not many. Most are crooked neer-do-wells who pad their time like a cheap mattress.

How do I know this? Before I got myself together I used to run with a fast crowd - doctors and lawyers - the expensive ones. I'm easy to talk to and they sure liked to brag, especially when when the scored a big one and were celebrating. Lots of nasty little secrets about how they screwed people. I got a good inside view.

So, I'm not saying that I'm perfect; I've screwed up a bunch and I'm not proud of it. What I'm saying is that I've changed and regret what I did and don't do it any more.

Anyway, if Rich is doing it for principle then damn the torpedoes. If he doesn't want to spend more than the 2K then I wouldn't do it.

Sorry if you don't like my commentary but I'm just offering a different opinion.

Lucille, it isn't about changing me; I'm stuck with myself like it or not. What is worth consideration is whether my thoughts (advice) is valid or not; it offered a different viewpoint than yours. My being a fighter has nothing to do with this but rather rational consideration of the facts of life. Lawyers win because they collect the money regardless of what happens to their clients. Yep they're necessary but I wouldn't bring one into my life now unless it was deathly necessary.

Lighter note: You should be graduating about now. What field did you choose? Corporate law; real estate; family law; whatever. You can be a positive influence for good if you can avoid the trap of greed and power.

Actually it will be another year before I graduate and take the bar exam; it has taken me longer to get my education because I work full time during the school year. I've been considering; and have even thought of having a dual career because I love being a nurse for those little kids and I am having a difficult time thinking about giving up working with them.
We'll see, I have friends that do some general and family law, and do good work, but I have another whole year to think on it.

Lawyers are not all money hungry sharks, I have several good friends at the DA's office and they don't make that much more than I do. Family law in general pays very little; one does it for the kids and the families, not big bucks.

Geez I took this OT, didn't I? I hope Rich gets that gun he wants; if not this specific one this time, then sometime soon, because he deserves good stuff in his life and doesn't deserve to be treated like Fones treated him.

Rich Z

Well, I may consider a small claims court action against him. Not sure how that works across state lines, though. He's located in Virginia and I'm in Florida. Maybe he likes to visit Florida and would find having an outstanding judgement filed against him in this state somewhat inconvenient.

I know the guy is a Browning collector because he mentioned it in an email to Tony as well as his handle being browningman1 on GunBroker. So I may keep my eyes peeled for Browning specific message boards where I can alert other Browning enthusiasts about doing business with this guy. If he will jerk me around, someone would likely be foolish believing it couldn't happen to them as well.

Jasper, I welcome your point of view.
I am hoping Axis Lucille will have tales to tell here in a couple years, of battles won, and families and children helped.

You are welcome to judge me; I hope you will judge me by MY actions.

Lucille, if I were so bold as to judge a person I've not had the oppertunity to meet, I would have to base my results on the statement that you are at present a Nurse,
one of the greatest things a person can do for another is care for another's childs health.
