Yup a new guy. former army paratroop(20 years),comms and weapon specialist and current farmer. Me no computery smartypants but finally figured it out how to join this website. (lots of difficulty for some reason unable to post anywhere but the test section)

At last people I can REALLY relate to. NOD AND WINK KNOWINGLY. My props to Y'ALL!!!

Yup. Me family guy wife and 3 girls. Attempt to educate kin on the FACTS STARING US RIGHT IN THE FACE and get a reply like Im a KOOK,UNBALANCED,DERANGED or worse!!!!(eg:wife) Sweetie we already have a flashlight!, why do you want another??

With possible DISASTER JUST AROUND THE CORNER and the majority of the SHEEPLE just carrying on expecting the world to be warm and cuddly!?!

Slowly training/educating the fam. Hey girls heres a hatchet and a newspaper 10 bucks to who gets a fire going and water boiling first. I can get them plinking with a 22 at bottles and they will eat deermeat but wont touch wild rabbit or my free range chicken. I dehydrate food and make jerky they love it and the wife has a huge garden that they love the veggie soup results but complain about weeding. PS Wife has AWESOME!! chunky veg soup recipe upon request.
And also use examples from recent history IE Katrina/Columbine/Earthquake news stories and ask the girls what would you do?Answer immediately!! Wouldnt it be better if you had had a fist aid kit/flashlight/water/food/pepperspray etc. Ya thats a good idea dad. what about if you were at work what would you do? Gotta get em thinkin and in a receptive frame of mind at least. Im in a major earthquake zone and get shakers all the time. I am fully prepped despite resistance from them thinking Im a crazyperson for doing so. My arsenal is fully equipped with all the necessary rods but Im in the market for a press as I figger when SHTFF WalMart wont be sellin me 454 Casull.

Lurked around this board for awhile and the members here are the people that think like me and dont judge me as a psycho for wanting to be ready for TEOLAWKI.

My question to Y'All is two parts: Is your family onboard if so to what degree and what do you do to educate/train/influence your family members to be more accepting and proactive in emergency preparation?

Oh Ya, to whoever (I think it was RIKA) posted about the sling and how simple and easy to aim yada yada you owe me a new bathroom window!!!LOL

Long winded intro yah I know BUT a perk here(related to SHTF OR NOT I DUNNO)!!!!!!!!!!!

Left the radio and headlights on in the jeep the other day about 37 and a half miles from nowhere. Battery dead!!!. Scratch head. Pulled out my STIHL chainsaw (the only brand) Husky wannabe. And I unbolted the bar and loosened off the alternator pulley ran the belt around the chainsaw drive pulley and onto the alternator pulley and fired her up. Ran it for 10 mins or so. NOTHING!! Scratch head!?!@? Turn key to on position to complete circuit. fire up chainsaw and spin alternator for 10 mins or so. Reconnect belt and fire up jeep, drive home. Let me know if that lil tidbit is useful to you I got a ton of em. Until then keep your feet on the pegs, the shiny side up and your powder dry!!

I don't think that I would have thought of something like that.... but then again, I haven't found myself in that position,... at least with a chainsaw. (I don't own a chainsaw, so it would be really difficult for me):shrugs:
Excellent Idea though for an emergent situation like that.....
