This is my South African SMLE No.4 Mk1 - I was researching my Enfields markings and found a good site that identifies the various South African military markings & Small-Arms Proofs. Its a nice Enfield rifle that i ve owned for a few years and really hadn't much a chance to shoot . I do have a half a case of .303 military ammo I think ill run a few through it out back then.... Interesting Lee Enfield #4 Mk1, who was the original manufacturer? Keep in mind that there are 12 different front sites that can be used to adjust POI and a sight tool can be easily manufactured from an old screw driver.

Garand, the front sight on my rifle can be adjusted by a flat head screw driver and was made by Parker-Hale . The rear sight is a Aperture Sight Similar to the Singer N67. As for manufacturer im not sure about that. No place on the rifle does it indicate who made it. My serial numbers begins with PF if that means anything? Fazakerly maybe? Beats the hell out of me... Ill have to remember the screw driver tool for my next enfield purchase if it needs such a tool. I did have a Savage made enfield but since sold it.

I spent a couple of enjoyable hours this evening researching Enfields. The Lee Enfield #4 Mk1 was manufactured in only 3 countries; they are Britain, Canada and the United States (Savage). The only serial numbers that I found in my limited search that had "PF" as a prefix of the serial number came from Royal Ordnance Factory Fazakerley. My Fazakerley has a prefix of "DB" and was manufactured in 05/43, and is a very accurate rifle. Here are the rear sights available for the #4;

You can see in these photo's that the Mark I sight TOP & Singer N67 small hole sight BOTTOM look similar. The MK I is a much better sight then the Mk II found on Canadian Long Branch or American Savage No.4 Mk1 rifles..

Nice Enfields. I have started reloading for mine and enjoy it more each time I take it to the range.
