Anyone have any experience with the Howda Hunter handgun? I saw one for the first time in the newest American Rifleman. Very cool indeed. Perfect gun to finish up my Road Warrior outfit. :)
Can be gotten with Two - 20 gauge barrels or one 20 gauge and one 50 cal.
Not terribly practical but looks like loads of fun.

Is that regulated under NFA as a short barreled shotgun or short barreled rifle depending on the configuration?
Authentic black powder weapons - or replicas - are not regulated under the NFA ...... yet.

I didn't know they were making copies of this. It was originally called the "Howdah" pistol after the name of the wicker basket that rode on the back of an elephant and carried Tiger hunters among other people. A very popular handgun with British Officer's during the time of the "Raj" in the 19th Century. It was designed as a last ditch weapon as the Tiger was climbing up the Elephant to get at the Hunter's. Most were muzzle loader's, but some latter ones fired cartridges. Pretty much a custom deal and expensive, so you could get it a variety of calibers. .577 was one of them.

Thanks RIKA. I didn't know that was BP. I should have known, given the percussion caps. It was late.

Load that thing up with .58 caliber musket balls and 50 grains of FFG and you have one heck of a pill pounder! Are they rifled?

I believe you can buy it with either two smoothbore 20 gauge shotgun barrels or one rifled 50 cal and one smoothbore 20 gauge barrel. Below is a link to a video of the gun in action.

I noticed it in the April 2008 American Rifleman page 52. (in the new for 08 section) It is listed as a Dixie product. Dixie Gunworks sells it for about $675. I see they also have a kit version for less ($525)

Another board listed a couple other sources for other makers of of similar guns.

The Cherrys site has the one I originally got the photo from for $560.
Unfortunately I cannot speak on the quality of any of the guns.....yet.

Damn, I can't find my April issue. I think the Old Lady has it in her bathroom. After she gets out I'll sneak in and snag it. Thanks for the info.---Respectfully.---OS
