If you followed the news, the Libs are having a cow...two career criminals, illegals from Columbia, broke into a guy's neighbor's house. Dude calls 911 and gets into a conversation with a dispatcher, eight and a half minutes long, while the cops don't show up...probably scared of showing up when a crime is actually being committed. The dispatcher tells him to hide in his own home and not go outside...the guy tells him he's going to blast the SOB's because they're getting away and he does so, killing both, shot to the back, with a pump shotgun.

Well, of course when a citizen takes care of the criminals, the police beat feet to get there, knowing the tax payer's no threat to them. They arrest him, and a Grand Jury won't indict him.

Now he did shoot them outside, at a neighbor's house, in the back...hard to prove self defense, but the castle doctrine applies.

Of course 'community leaders' claim it's racism...but they choose to break in and if they'd not, they'd be alive and dude walks. The Liberals are up in arms, saying it's fair game on anyone...anyone who breaks into a house.

From my perspective, what did we lose?

I've been following this case and was disappointed with the verdict; I don't feel that it was a just ruling because it undoes the standard precedent of self defense. The Castle Law is a good one and I support it, but in this case I don't feel that it really applies. At best the spirit of the legislation has been abused.

Citizens shouldn't be (as you say) "taking care of the criminals" outside of the courtroom unless they or others are threatened directly, in which case, two to the body and one to the head by all means. The Castle Law revolves around the premise that home invasion is by nature threatening and thus justifies the use of lethal force in dissuading the assailant. Joe Horn shot the two burglars outside, in the back, while they were retreating from a different home; that is simple vigilantism.

Horn wasn't arrested until later.

i believe the verdict was just and fair. it's about time the criminals got the short end of the stick, for a change. i bet it will just take a few more of these before the bad guys begin to get the idea. there is a time and a place for justice. looks like this was the place and it was about time.

to add about the racism thing, didn't he shoot them with a black gun, see couldn't have been any racism involved.

I liked the decision. Apparently Texas has a law that says you can defend your neighbors home when the neighbors aren't there. I bet burglary went down quit a bit in Joe's neighborhood. Why have law enforcement if there is no deterrent? Well now there is a deterrent.

Those two unwanted tax burdens and house breakers ain't going to be a problem any longer.

It's a good result...too bad we can't charge Columbia to pick up the trash.
