.....for that matter, he could have forgotten to load a semi-auto, etc. Mistakes (usually reduced with training) can happen to anyone. Anyone except you, of course.

NYPD stakeout specialist from the 60's

personally shot 13 armed robbers, double teamed half a dozen more with his parts. Actively studied the other 20 or so shootings that his team got involved in. They also arrested 240 or so armed robbers who gave up INSTANTLY, after the word got out about what HAPPENED to the armed robbers (ALL black, all ROBBING blacks, in Harlem liquor stores ) who did NOT do so. :-)

The pump shotgun aint WORTH training-with (to the extent that it offers jack SQUAT in the way of an advantage over a good pistol or auto rifle.

Yes you can forget to cycle a pump shotgun, just as you could forget to take off the safety on a semi auto or as you could forget to pull the trigger. When the pucker factor takes over and your sphincter muscle is puckering away with all its might it is easy to forget lots of things. That is why the NYPD, years ago, issued shotguns that they called Idiot Guns - double barreled shotgun, pull trigger it goes bang twice.

As for Jim Cirillo, a great guy, and a wonderful firearms instructor, very witty too.

best regards,
Glenn B

Many thinks can happen when a adrenilen rush hits you, fine motor skills can vanish in a heartbeat. The more that you practice , the more proficient you become with your chosen firearm under periods of stress. Marksmanship is a perishable skill. But then you can't either own nor shoot firearms, can you gunkid?

Two good ways to practice to keep from short stroking:
1.)snap caps, put 'em in, cycle, fire, cycle, fire. . .

2.) Skeet/trap/sporting clays(my fav of the 3) shooting. Simple swap of barrel, my 870 Police magnum goes from riot gun to skeet gun. Get embarassed short-stroking on the course, and you won't do it too often.
